FedEx Cup Bottomline Problem
With all the threads about the FedEx Cup (people complaining if you miss the cut you should be eliminated...no wait! Others say the playoffs have too much volatility!), the bottom line is this...
It has no identity. It's been compared to the NASCAR points chase. The problem is, the winner of the NASCAR points chase is the NASCAR champion. The PGA Tour still has a separate player of the year award. So the FedEx Cup champion is not the "champion" of the PGA Tour. The FedEx Cup has been compared to the Super Bowl or the World Series. Again, the winner of those events are the football or the baseball champion. Again, the FedEx Cup champion is not "the" champion of the PGA Tour. And the Super Bowl and the World Series are the most important events you can win in those sports. In golf, the four majors are more important titles than the FedEx Cup. So just what is it supposed to determine? Who knows. golfonlinesale |
