Speaking of the iPhone...

... if everything goes as planned, you should see an announcement tomorrow. Something that many of you want to hear.

Thank you, Chip. I understand AT&T had to do some upgrades, but it is about time! Cheers, bud!

I don't think so. But a little software update will probably do the trick, if my assumptions are correct. Or rather what I've been hearing through the grapevine are correct.

I believe they are announcing the release of the 3.1 software update that will include MMS.

MMS is correct.

All the iPhone accounts had a feature added at point of sale that disabled MMS to comply with the lack of support from the iPhone. All those million upon million accounts had to have those removed manually.

So if everything goes as planned, a firm date should be announced tomorrow.

So it's only a firm date, and not the actual release?

Actually that makes sense since I heard it would be 'announced,' but no mention of actual release...

That's what I heard, especially with regards to the software update.

Seriously?

I am actually quite frustrated with AT&T at this point, no offense Chip. My friends in Europe have had MMS since the 3.0 upgrade. That and the dropped calls are starting to get on my nerves.

I get perfect service, but I am also in Dallas which is the world HQ.

We have over 9.000.000 iPhones on our network. The average phone or smart phone does not even come close to the iPhone in terms of data usage.
Do that to ANY carrier on the planet and you will bury them. Literally.

This is where they monitor all the data traffic from. TEN PETABYTES PER DAY.

I understand your concerns, don't get me wrong. I'd feel the same way if I had those issues.

Love that picture. That is a beautiful setup.

I understand that the iPhone has put a hurt on AT&T's infrastructure for data. This problem will only get worse once MMS is added. I know I'm going to use the heck out of it.

Yes it did. 350% data traffic increase year over year due to the iPhone.
Any other carrier in the world would have the same problem, if not worse.
We spent 38 billion in 2008 on network upgrades to accommodate the traffic. That's MORE than the market value of Sprint or T-Mobile!

250 feet long by 12 feet tall.

I want that in my house. Of course, I would need a bigger house.

And a better surround sound system.
