Rolex 1016

So I have been on the hunt for a nice Explorer 1016. I saw this on a dealers website, and fairly priced. Would be curious to get some of the members opinions on these few pics. Thanks for your support.

All depends on price.

I’d want to see better photos of the dial/hands and a UV photo, and photos of the movement, reference and serial numbers.

However at first glance, it looks like nice matching patina on the dial/hands, and an over-polished case.

Rivet bracelets are cool. Does the clasp date stamp match the age of the watch?

Unless my eyes deceive me, the patina on the hands appear darker than that on the dial.

If it helps any, here is what just crossed the block at Sothebys for less than $14K -

But if I was looking to buy, the dealer would need to send me much better pictures - sharper and close-up - inside and out.

Up for grabs is a Rolex Explorer I, Reference 1016, circa 1967, with an MK1 “Frog Foot” dial. This particular Explorer is in great vintage condition. The case has been previously polished, but still retains thick and even lugs. The dial is gorgeous, with no major damage, chips, scratches, etc. The original tritium lume is present on both dial and hands, aged to a nice pale yellow color. The watch comes equipped on a Rolex rivet C&I bracelet, dated to 1967, and has 10 full links with medium stretch.

I would look at the bracelet closely as it appears it may need an overhaul which isn't cheap for a rivet.

What's with the "Up for grabs" on every watch listing.

Also, it's a C&I, and short.

Its not a watch I'd buy. Generally I like Adam's stuff too. Wearing a watch right now I got from him.

Looks ok - smidge of oil vapour from pinion seems to have darkened hands esp towards pinion. Also has a C and I (which have a slightly reduced curvature to link and thinner middle link of course) that EL doesn't seem to fit well on north lug.
I'd say £11-12k for a matte/white writing is UK money too. The plexi fitted makes a big difference aesthetically for me on a 1016, nice bit of light domage brings out the dial.
