Would tariffs on Rolex and swiss watches impact US sales?

There’s talk of tariffs being imposed on Swiss goods sold in the US. What if any impact would that have on our beloved Rolex brand?

What do our US based community members think of what are being touted as over 20% tariffs? I am curious as to how that might impact us here in the US.

Consumers typically pay for tariff's, not companies. Rolex will throw this right on top of the MSRP and still sell everything they make. If it impacts sales, then maybe they, along with the AD absorb some if it. Glad I have what I want in both cars and watches as my cars are German and my watches are Rolex.

My comment would be that talk is cheap. Until it actually happens, I will just consider it as posturing.

Let’s wait and see what the total package looks like. Tariffs may increase prices on goods but Americans may have more money in their pockets to spend on said goods if they choose.

I'm in the wait and see camp... Headline numbers vs what actually, if anything, gets put in place will be very different.

I think a 20% price hike would definitely affect US Rolex sales. And I can’t name a single company that would “absorb” the costs of a tariff.

My thoughts too. More of a headline grabber to announce that there's a new sheriff in town. I expect the actual tarrifs to be much smaller, if any. On the bright side, a short term 25% tariff could cool down the feeding frenzy on Rolex, might even see stock return to ADs, AND perhaps ADs start being nice to their customers again. :-)

The economic leverage the US has over other countries is significant, so threatening high tariffs can produce favourable results without actually implementing them. We shall wait and see.

There is no real indication that Swiss watches will see any more tariff costs than they already have, they are not presently tariff/duty free. Sale prices are set by Rolex USA and not Rolex Geneva.

The Swiss are not dumping luxury watches in the US and harming all of those US luxury watch brands.

Exactly. I don't know why people think the White House should be the customer service department for every other country. These tariffs are far more devastating to other countries than us. They're going to have to play by our rules.

As always, what’s presented in the run up is rarely what’s implemented in reality. Rolex would just tack the price on top.

I also predict there will not be higher tariffs on Swiss goods. But a 20 or more percent increase across the line here in the US will definitely impact sales negatively on the non-sports models.

I imagine a 50% tariff wouldn't do a single thing to impact Rolex sales in the United States.

We did not pay more for imported goods when 45 utilized this negotiation tool. I am extremely hopeful and optimistic for the replacement of 46 and 47's new decisive leadership.

This post is very political and seems to cross a line that I hope can bring 2 very different perspectives together.

I have seen no credible sources citing any increases in current import duties on any Swiss products.

The proposed 25% tariff on all products from Mexico & Canada cited concerns about illegal immigration and illicit drugs flowing into the U.S. (I am taking no sides on those political topics - just referencing the tariffs mentioned in the media)

I have never heard of the Swiss doing either drug exports nor illegally gaining entry to the U.S.

I think the flow of murderers and fentanyl from Switzerland is minimal. So don't expect a tariff change.
