turn o graph datejust bezel question

i have a rolex 116253 turnograph with the engine turned bezel on it

can i swap a newer fluted turnograph bezel from a 116263 on to it

or just a regular fluted datejust bezel on to it

i prefer the fluted look over the engine turned look

A 116253 is not a Turn-0-graph and doesn't have an engine turned bezel, although a 116263 is a fluted bezel TOG. Perhaps we need to regroup.

Maybe it was just a typo by the OP.

The 5 digit TOG's did have bezel treatment that some might call engine-turned (or radial). See mine below for reference.



What I think the question might be is this:
Can one pop off that bezel above for the newer 6-digit TOG's fluted bezel?

One that looks like this:



I believe not as the underlying crystal retaining ring is different for the 6-digit models.


Anyone know that answer?

yes that was a typo

i have a turnograph 16253
its a great looking watch

I just want to try a different bezel on it for a little while
and i was thinking maybe the newer reference fluted style bezel would fit it
i cant find any info out there about it

do you think a regular datejust fluted bezel from the same era as my watch would fit ?
there really is not much info available
and i want to know for sure before i spend the money on another bezel
unfortunately this is the only datejust model that i own
all of my other rolexs are the larger “sport” models

bezels are a quick swap

im not a fan of mismatched parts on watches
but for something like a quick bezel swap i dont see the harm in it if the original bezel can be put back on in a few minutes

If you use a 16253 fluted swap, yes it would work. A TOG is just a DJ with a different bezel. Removal must be done correctly - are you thinking DIY?

TOG is a different assembly so you'd need to understand how to put the original back on correctly. Remember, the original is a rotating bezel.

A 36mm DJ TOG from the same era is the same watch with simply a bezel change so they would exchange. The biggest problem would be sourcing one. Personally I just like to have two watches and save the hassle of changing stuff

so i have not gotten to the point where i have removed the original bezel

but i have changed out bezel inserts on my older rolex gmt (originally a coke, but i purchased a pepsi bezel insert years ago for it and i swap them from time to time)

is the bezel removal and reinstallation any different on a TOG compared to an older gmt ?

i agree
the more the merrier
but i dont see myself ever buying another datejust
i really only wear it if im wearing a shirt and tie or a suit
which is not often for me

my submariner and my coke gmt are my daily worn watches
and every so often i will wear the polar dial explorer ii

i would rather spend the few hundread $$ that an original gold fluted bezel costs
and buy a different model rolex when im ready

but as far as i know
all the TOG models from this era (16253) are all the same
right ?
meaning they are more of the “engine turned” style than an actual “fluted” bezel ?

as far as i know the fluted bezels only came on the last models of the TOG (116263)

am i correct about that ?
