The posts in this thread show how low people will go when jealousy kicks into their minds.
Trying to turn someone off what they can't or dont want to achieve. Its the classic 'I cant have it, so i make myself hate it' attitude of the lowlife Whats funny is the folk who knock the purchase of a rolex or anything else 'expensive' sure seem to have done their homework re prices and values etc for something they say they 'hate' !!! My standard response - "Do you pay my bills?" Normally shuts them up.! |

It's his lack of understanding and appreciation of finer things in life

I like Red Baron's answer very much. If you don't mind, can I use it?

At the end of the day, there are watches that do everything better than a Rolex - deeper, more accurate, more easily read etc.
Rolex does not do anything better than any other watch - other than being a Rolex. My Submariner cops a hiding in the confines of a diesel electric submarine and survives quite well (the vacuum has been known to cause havoc with other watches, however the Rolex does o.k), yet it is not the only watch that can survive harsh environements. (Great watch if you are trying to escape from a submarine as it is rated below escape depth - theorectically). Rolex is a good (great) all round watch at a premium price. It is certainly a coveted piece of watchmaking, albeit surrounded by a wank factor that is at times overbearing. I am extremely happy with my Submariner, however, I would not die in a ditch over it. At the end of the day, it is a watch - period. Regards, George |

People that aren't fine watch enthusiasts don't ever understand paying a lot of money for a watch! I understand that and know not everybody shares my fine watch interests. On the other hand, anybody that acts disrespectful about it is just a moron, like you said.

I have a bit of a temper if people just DONT GET IT
So when he followed i should just stand in his face and ask him what the F his problem is. But anyway, you did a good call to just ignore him. A discussion in that situation wouldent lead anywhere |

Spot On
I wouldn't be caught dead wearing a gold chain on my neck or some tacky ring on my hand. Now put a Rolex on my wrist and I have one of the most beautiful pieces of jewelry you can own. The watch can be seen from 20-30 feet away yet it looks tasteful. And the best part is that every once in awhile I remember that I can see what time it is by using my Rolex.
Exactly. I couldn't have said it better myself! |

I've gotten this before in regards to my watches. I just say "women have their jewelry and men have watches" The people who make these comments often are just jealous of your success and what you have.

I think I would have replied, "Yeah, that's easy, my Rolex does something your Timex never will- make me feel like I have $10 grand on my wrist. Now FCKU yourself off."

We collect art, and years ago we would extoll our latest art purchases to our friends and neighbors and everyone else that wanted (or didn't want) to hear. Many would also judge us and some would say their children or pets could paint as well for much less, etc. etc. We finally stopped telling everyone. We bought the art because we loved it - plain and simple. If they noticed it great, if not, oh well. I'm going to approach wearing my Rolex with the same attitude and outlook. I'm buying one because I want one, and that's that! I am perplexed: I've been trying to figure out what WIS stands for and it's KILLING ME! It's probably so simple I'm going to die, but a little help please. Thanks. |

'fraid its not just watches...I choose to shoot with a leica M8, more expensive and less versatile than almost everything else but it has a certain 'rightness' about what it is and does...not to mention all the history...same with my SD, just feels right , so much so that I'm in the process of selling my breitlings and panerai.....bought to satisfy fasion but never felt 'right' (going for a DJ 41 instead).....This life is short enough without having to take time out to educate the ignorant.......its just not worth it.
the only person you ever have to justify something to is yourself (oh and your other half! lol) |

Some people just dont GET IT. They never will understand. If you have to try to explain then they will never understand either. Its a waste of time to try.
I appreciate and admire fine time pieces, no matter who made them. Rolex, Omega, Hamilton, IWC, Patek, there are so many out there to love. It goes without saying that you will get such people no matter the subject matter in life. With ANYTHING you buy, or do. Someone will have something to say or justify to themselves, and in doing so, they try to force that upon you. I purchase things that I want and will enjoy. I dont care what anyone else thinks. If they also appreciate fine things, then we can converse over a glass of nice wine, or a good cigar. If they dont get it, then they can move along. Life is too short for me to try to explain things to someone else who wouldn't get it anyway. I had my friends recently call me a fool for spending $1500 on a sub woofer for my home theater room. His sub woofer was surely AS GOOD as mine, and I got ripped off. Its all the same. It most certainly is NOT. I invited him over for a demo. After he picked up his jaw from the floor, he asked where the heck he could get one of those. He gets it now! You get what you pay for in most aspects of life, sometimes you get even more than you pay for, but you will never get something for nothing. That much is certain. |
