Yes Chris, the dot was the deciding factor, and thanks to brainbizz and links I was able to do a bit of research. The AD was very knowledgeable but even he missed the K to L series changes and said he could have sold the watch weeks earlier if he'd known!
Lucky for me.

The K is not limited, but a series of 2000, their first in-house movement Panerai Calibre P.2002/1 and the changes from dot to am/pm should hopefully protect the watch against depreciation...

Plus...it's a beautiful piece and I am going to get a LOT of enjoyment from wearing it.

For now at least the 16610(V) will be confined to the safe.

Well, i guess everyone knows i'm a 233 man, but i can see the attraction of the 270 as well. The problem for me though is that the basic dial is messed up a little with the AM/PM indicator and the 9 being crushed onto the dial, it just looks wrong as they have reduced the size of the numbers to do this, and on a large dial it makes them look too small.

Pricewise, well buying any PAM new other than the SE models means you walk out the shop and the watch will lose 20%, but that's the same with Rolex, Omega and all the others, the best bet is to find somewhere selling it at least 20% cheaper, there are a good few dealers on here and Paneristi.com that sell brand new Panerai's at great prices.

As stated by MFER though, there is no bad choice, it's personal opinion and i'm sure when you see them both side by side and try them on you'll pick one over the other, and it will be the correct choice for you, which is the important thing

This was supposed to be a dress watch looking back through this thread, but so far it hasn't left my wrist and I have spent a very unhealthy amount of time browsing a new found weakness for aftermarket straps and buckles!

Where will the madness end?!

The madness is just beginning! I received my 312 about 2 weeks ago and I enjoy the wrist time it gets... and the strap window shopping I'm doing. It's a great addition to my collection.
