Pepsi Shortage?

There seems to be some credence to the idea that Pepsi GMT, GMT II's are in shorter secondary market supply (and command higher prices) than say Cokes...I say this because of my own observations.

I recently acquired a mint Coke GMT II which I love...Not sure I like the idea of swapping the bezel insert with the frequency one might change into a NATO strap.

Soooooo...if I decided I really wanted a Pepsi - (and avoid constant bezel swapping) I was considering buying an older black GMT and making it into a Pepsi for good.

Two questions...

1.) Do folks concur with the price / demand observation?
2.) What is the general feeling about converting a GMT bezel insert. Is that blasphemy? Frankenwatching? A-OK???

There are a few models that only came in one color bezel....The 16760 for example came only in the black/red..... these should wear only that insert......

As for the rest........... have at it.........

There is no reason why any GMT should have a premium attached because of the readily available insert color.........

I agree with Larry also. I have not seen significant differences in prices on the GMT/GMT II's with different bezel colors to conclude that the price differences are related to the bezel color themselves. The price differences I have seen could also reflect condition, vintage, local market variations in prices, inclusion of accessories (boxes and papers) and other variables.

I don't think converting the bezel color (as long as it's with a genuine Rolex insert) makes it a "Frankenwatch". Conversions are done a lot.

Thanks much Larry

I get what you are saying...

However, I suppose if one wanted papers (I know your position on papers ) certain series specify in the model # which insert originally came with the watch...I know you could just sell with the original bezel insert if you ever flipped it to someone who cared.

Good info about the 16760 though. I learned something today!
