Hi all,

I'm new here...just posted my debut on the new members forum. I inherited a beautiful watch from my grampa..it is a circa 1980s president and it is basically brand new (gold stick dial, fluted bezel, pres bracelet). Only been worn a couple of times for a few hours in total. Anyways, one of the gold stick markers on the dial has fallen off somehow. Does any one know how big a deal it is to fix this? Doesn't look like much but...

also, I'm looking to get a day-date platinum

to add to my collection...may have to sell this one to do that but not sure yet. Going to try my best to avoid that to build the collection but let's face it, these aren't cheap. So I'm wondering what the retail for this watch would have been and how much it would have depreciated even though it is mint and basically brand new?

The price in 1980 was $7,950 and you should be able to get close to that if in mint condition and with all paraphenilia.

Wow A platinum one!
That is a sweet watch, I tried one on at the AD one day and I loved it, but my wallet didn't love it as much!
Maybe in 10 years!
Congrats on the inheritence. That is a nice watch!
There are a few Watch Makers and other on here who could offer insight on to this!

here's a pic folks. it really is mint other than the stick...been kept in my safe over the years (inherited it years ago) and not sure how/why that stick fell off.

The stick is no big deal, any competent watchmaker can pop it back.

If it's only been worn a total of a few hours it should like you say be in mint condition.

The lugs however looks like they've been polished which puzzles me.

I don't see the polishing, but yes more pictures are needed.

The fonts on the date and day are already making me nervous. Is it me or is the "U" in "TUESDAY" off kilter?

I can say I don't know much, but my 1964 DD day wheel DOES NOT look like that. I can see the suspicion there. I am not educated enough in all models to know though!

Here's what I see.................look at the above pic where the day is set to WEDNESDAY. If you enlarge that pic you will see the letters are improperly spaced and crooked and 2 are touching and the letters A and Y font are completely inconsistent with any genuine model I've ever seen. Now if you look down at the date the 2 looks incorrect to me as well as the spacing and magnification. The word ROLEX and others on the dial also look incorrect to me.

I don't know, someone's going to want to see the clasp in its entirety. front back and all of it. I have seen many fakes with the coronet, but I can't discern if this is the case. I want to put you at ease. I am not picking this apart, in the end it's a damn fine looking watch, but if it isn't real, trust me, you WILL find out in a hurry.

I'm not trying to insult the OP but he has to be told that many new people come on here with a Rolex and the first red flag is the circumstances in which they received the piece. Usually the explanation given is an inheritance, "Found it in a vault", it was under the sofa cushion in my frat house, my ex girlfriend gave it to me and on and on and on.

Then comes the veiled mention of a sale. I have seen it here with DD's, DJ's, and an 18kt Daytona. The best was a guy with a "Paul Newman" Daytona. The Daytona experts here were on this guy in a New York minute!

After 8 pages of posts, swearing it was real and feigning disgust, he finally came clean...trying to make it look like it was a joke or a test. I beleive this guy was shown the TRF door.

So if this fella is willing to post all pictures he is asked and is willing to withstand intense scrutiny for his answer, than he shall have it.

If he's intent on testing us with a fake or defrauding a member, he'll be uncovered with his pants on the ground in a heartbeat.
