Rolex Ref: 1055 help.

Am I correct that the first DD 6511 had a 1055 movement and after one year the DD 6611 also had a 1055 but with an improved balance wheel?

Is this a real 1055 and if so is this the old or new one? No one said it would be easy.

So the DD is the Red-Headed Step-Child of Rolex, I'm on my own? Can I get an exhibition case back; it looks as good a an Asian ETA movement.

Always though the 1055 was in the Rolex Date models 6510, 6511, 6611, 6612, 6613.

I had piccys of the 1055 somewhere around here I'll come across them soon I hope :-)

This is in a 6611 the second generation DD made in 1957, supposedly it is the 6511 also. It received an improved balance wheel in the 6611 so it could be COC certified. This is what I know so far in general about the movement and models.

The reference 6611 replaced the very first Day Date reference 6511, which was produced for only one year (1956).
The seller is very cooperative and sent the many pictures that I asked for. He is just not sure how much of the watch is refinished or replacement parts. He bought the watch on eBay about a month ago; supposedly as a gift for his son-in-law. Of course a young guy doesn't want a DD.

I'm inclined to believe the seller so I have to evaluate the watch myself. He only wants about $150 more than he paid as he said he had the watch serviced. It is not a vast amount as Rolex's sell for but more than I want to throw down a gopher hole. He has a three day money back guarantee too.

The watch was on "WatchOut" and we gave it a "wat'dat? I donn'o." Oh fudge, 18k DD's speak to me. They speak like a high maintenance girl friend.
