springbar question

hi everyone, i once had a sub nd (loved the lug holes), and now have an newer exp 2 without lug holes. so i understand the basic difference between these two types of springbars.

but what about the sport models that have sel & lug holes? do these models have the same springbars that are found on the sub no date? i'm aware that those early solid end-links do not have a cut out for removing the springbars from the underside of the watch - as is the sel now currently provided... so the only way to remove the band is through the lug hole.

this above link shows two springbar images at the top. i assume the first model is used in rolex cases with lug holes.

also, what are the pros and cons to each type of springbar (eg integrity & longevity)? cheers & thanks in advance,

Yes, the spring-bar on top has no ridges on the ends and is designed for those cases that have the lug-holes. Subs are designed to take on 2 mm thick bars.

The sports models with lug-holes have been around for several years and have proven themselves over time to be very strong and dependable.

The newer, no lug-hole cases, take on the other spring-bars pictured lower down in that link.......these have ridges on the end and would need a Bergeon 6111 tool to take off.

Now, I'm not sure about the integrity and quality of these bars, but I would rather go to the local AD and pick up original Rolex spring-bars. They aren't expensive, probably 20 bucks a pair, but you will have total peace of mind.

right... thanks guys... in fact, i wasn't thinking of purchasing these springbars. it was more for illustrative purposes. i'm considering purchasing another rolex, and i'm thinking about getting the best of both worlds: lug holes and sel. cheers,

Yes Rolex Spring Bars

I think my Sub was the last year they had completely pierced lugs 1999
The old style pin in the pierced hole was far superior to the new non-pierced lugs. The tip on the newer style pin only penetrated the case by a little less that 1/8 inch. But the Rolex Spring pins are all stainless steel.

actually, i've seen y-serial subs with lug holes, so that puts it at 2002/2003. cheers,
