1950's Rolex Explorer "dress" Brevet 6298
I am trying to find out more info on this watch. Can't seem to find one exactly like it online. I know it's rare as it was a prototype Explorer. Any more info out there? This one has a pinkish dial with the gold details, silver band and outside though. The stamp is Brevet 6298. Help! This picture isn't the greatest as my camera doesn't take pictures close-up very well but the watch is in good condition.

1953 explorer ref 6298
Hi I have one just like yours. It looks to be the same as a watch auctioned at Christie's in 2009:
http://www.christies.com/LotFinder/l...jectID=5130488 It's very similar to the one Hillary wore on Everest, though his was probably a 6098 (renumbered as 6298) not marked "explorer" and had a triangle marker rather than a "12" at the the top position. Read about it here: http://rolexblog.blogspot.com/2008/1...d-hillary.html and here: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...26tbs%3Disch:1 Best! |
