Big Block Itch

Really starting to get the itch looking at Tudor 791XX's. Thinking about pulling the trigger on one. Man that's one sweet watch ! Looking specifically at the 79160 / 79170. Anybody have an opinion / advice ? Guessing that the bezel can't be easily swapped out between these two (as one rotates and the other's fixed) ???

They are beautys. No you can't swap.
The fix is a tachymetre scale, while the rotatable lets you read a second time zone.

Love those Big Blocks. The commanding sized case and plex crystal make these a real treat.

To kind of help push you along, this was just posted today!
http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=125127

I love the black bezel on that one. I have a 79180 with all SS myself and love it! For that watch I prefer the fixed tachyometer. The rotating stuff is better left to a turnograph or diving watch.

I have to respectfully disagree. I love all the bezel options but the rotating bezel is unique, and for me, extremely useful.

Dan is the best Tudor Chrono ambassador .
He has 3 great ones , and his pics and those of many other proud owners
here on TRF seduced me into getting a more modest 79280 for myself.
They do look great either with the steel tachy or black rotate bezel. I don't
thik you'll go wrong either way.

You know, I've always wanted a Daytona but never committed because of the lack of a date function. But seeing these 79170's make me start drooling... and thinking...

Geeze, I keep getting in deeper and deeper (with the eye candy you guys post and discuss). Time for some reflection (and maybe a cold shower). Appreciate everything - still undecided on the rotating bezel or the chrono...but love the opinions, photos. etc....

The more modest 79280's are very nice and can hold their own [except for price] w/ the Big Blocks.
With the bezel, dial, and bracelet varieties offered by Tudor there's a chrono model for everyone.

Same here again! I once realized the date window and had a conniption. It's an upgraded Daytona although no date gives the dial balance in my opinion. Does anyone have comparison shots along side a Daytona??? I am just curious to see the difference the bigger case makes

No, but here are comparison shots of the Big Block vs the "Daytona" styled case of my 79280.

I always keep either a 79170 or a 94200 in in my stable as these are the two best chrono's to own in my opinion..they will always surely increase in value.
good luck no matter what you choose brother!
heres a nice picture of one..

This may sound stupid but has anyone ever put the movement and dial from a daytone and put in into a big block?

Thanks for the photos Dan.

On a different note, I found this photo online when searching for "79160" and the info was in german. The Tudor looks much bigger; whats the deal here? I thought that the 79160 had a thicker case but the same in diameter

Here are pics of my two step brothers. Both are from 1993 give or take a few months. From the top they are about the same size. But from the sides my 79180 is much thicker.

I do not believe you can swap the guts as the movements are different sizes and the dials would not align.
