Explorer II "Good Price?"
I have been looking a Explorer II black dial with a U serial #. Price has been negotiated down to 3000. But there is no original cert, boxes or booklet. Does this sound like a fair deal?

Hello and Welcome to TRF,
U is a 1996 model... the price is only ok since it's a 15 years old watch with no warranty and unknow service history...you can check here on the Forum under the for sale and I'm sure you'll find a Better buy

Here is one listed ...I know you want Black dial but that will give you an idea...
the watch is a Z about 2007 model with paper and no need for service and the seller is willing to take $3750... the $750 you're paying more here are for 11 years of age and I visit to the Doctor... I hope that helped http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=128242

That's not a good price at all. You can buy an F or D serial (2004-2005) undocumented for 3200 or so. Or just buy mine in the link provided above (thanks justrolexes) for $3750 and know you've got a 100% authentic piece that will not need service for a long time.

I have found that the value of a watch is relative. If you're willing to pay a bit more for your peace of mind, then it's all worth it. Personally I wouldn't settle for anything without documentation but that's just me. Even if I paid 3000 which seems like a good price I would be happier with something a bit more expensive, but is complete. Again that's just me. 3K though seems like a fair price.

If the watch is in good condition and doesn't show an excessive amount of wear, it's not a bad price... figure in another 550 for a full service and you have a like-new watch, with new papers and 2 year Rolex warranty..
This one will have those nice lug-holes....

But you still have to buy it and hope that it has not been serviced with "other" parts and then send it off and wait 10 weeks to get it back. I don't think an Explorer that old and undocumented is worth more than 2500. Just my 2 cents.

That is a decent price if it is in good condition. I have seen some more recent models (Y, P, D or F) sell in the low-mid 3K range complete with boxes and papers.

imo, i would ask for a lower price solely for the lack of original b&p. those are key elements that help your cherished timepiece hold its value.
