I'm really sorry to hear this Tom ,
All of those are beautiful pieces. I love that White dial Daytona I really don't envy your decision. If you really have to off-load one or two then Nat made a good point about selling them off one at a time. Just which one to sell, well only you know the answer to that. The one you could live without. You never know what is waiting for you in Thailand .

Can you get a replacement case back for the White Daytona? Would that reduce it's value?

I'm sorry to hear you're going through this..

Based on the info provided I'd say sell the Daytona's for sure. They'll get you the highest return.

If the IIc is your go to watch (and it understandably should be - its beautiful) then I'd say keep that for sure.

I'd start with the daytona's and try to hold onto the Subby as long as you can. Should you need the cash you'll be able to sell it pretty easily seeing that it's mint but if you buckle down and really give it your all I'm sure you can find away to save right and keep it.

Tom, I'm also sorry that you're going through this. I know how stressful it can be when you've been let go.

My suggestion is also to let the watches go slowly if you can, unless you're 100% happy parting with 3 of them. It sounds like the Zenith Daytona would fetch the most money right now, and while I understand why you are holding on to it, and the lengths you went to get it, the bottom line is you're NOT wearing it and enjoying it. It could bring in a nice chunk of cash.

Well this is a tough decision that may be based on which watch you want the most. Personally I would sell the LV first and one of the Daytonas.

Although a Daytona is a nice watch, I've often felt that it wasn't an ideal watch to wear on a daily basis. If you feel that way sell both Daytonas and keep the GMT.

I'm with the group keep the GMT and white Daytona. I have had to sell two of my watches when I was younger. It is tough and even sold one I had engraved so it wouldn't get flipped.

Personally, I would keep the GMT IIC. That's a beautiful watch and the most used one right now. I think given the financial situation, take the one that is most functional. The others can always be bought again.

Personally, I'd sell as necessary (as previously mentioned). My criteria for selling would be a mix of versatility and recoverability of the watch.

For me, I'd sell in this order:

1) Zenith Daytona - You don't wear it anyways as it's hard to see the time. It'll fetch a large amount of money. I think this is a good candidate for first sale.

2) GMTIIc - Gets a lot of wear, but will be very easy to replace going forward. I'd sell this second.

3) White Daytona - Sure, it's engraved, but not for any sentimental reason, so there's not too much other reason to keep this one if the need to sell once again arises. Might be a little more difficult to re-acquire, but also is less versatile with day to day use.

4) LV - While it might not be your absolute favorite, I think that may be because the other watches are newer/nicer. I think the LV is the most versatile watch in the group (as previously mentioned, you can purchase a black bezel and have almost two different watches). It's not too shiny and is classic Rolex. At the same time, it's also got that little bit of rarity to it that will keep you (as a WIS) interested in it.


In the end, you gotta do what you gotta do. Hang in there - it's not the end of the world. Things will turn around for you!

Well, the good news about Rolex watches is that they hold their value and you should be able to get the cash pretty quickly. I'd only sell one to start out with. You never know. You may get a job very quickly and then you just lost some money selling your watches.

Keep the daytona and wear it everyday. Some desk diving marks are all part of the patina. After 5 years get it serviced and it will come back polished up and looking brand new.

I'd save the white daytona since it seems to have some sentimental value as you mentioned. Perhaps you can keep the LV, but I would sell the other 2.

I'm sorry you have to make your mind up, as to which watch stays, or goes.

My thoughts are this. If the market is to rebound in 5 years, your Daytona's would be be worth a bit more. The others are a little more common, and cost less to replace.

My second thought is if your in a financial hard place, and have 4 Rolexes, I would liquidate all of them, and start fresh later. That's a very hard thing to do, but the best for the financial safety you NEED. I would love to think my rolex is a need, but I would probably sell most of my luxury items, and focus on cutting stress from my mind.

Keep in touch with the people you sell the sentimental items to, and ask to purchase them later if they are able to part with it.

Cash is hard to come by, and you might already know the answer, but it's hard either way.

Sorry to hear this news..I would keep one watch and liquidate to cover you now.. You could find reasons to keep them all.. The GMT is the one you like to wear so that's the one to keep. It's awful to have to part with those beautiful watches...but they are all replaceable. ..and know that in time you'll have others like them.
