Is this common practice?

A gray Rolex dealer in Amsterdam can give me a great deal on a brand new datejust (legit with papers). However the original watch might not come with the dail I want. The dealer assured me should that be the case he would switch the dail for the one I desire.

Is this common practice?

I seam to recall having read on TRF that uncertified replacement of any component of the watch would result in void warrenty and create problems should I send the watch in for service by RSC.

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

I would rather buy the watch with the dail I want. Do the papers state which original dail the watch was produced with? If so I'll demand the real thing.

If they use an aftermarket part and you send it to RSC, they will replace it with an original.

I would not want a black dial datejust with papers that are of a white dial watch.

As long as the dial is in the same price "family" it's ok.

If the dial is a authentic, not modified Rolex it would not void the warranty. Make sure he shows you the dial and has proof it is the real deal and you would want to keep the old dial if you want to sell it.

If it's a "higher class" dial it WILL void the warranty.

As Pep said you don't want a white dial on the warranty and the watch has a black dial...But here is what you can do, get the dial you want and hold on to the original, in that case if you have to sell the watch you can place the original back in and sell it with the warranty that is matching...

Really, I am learning something new every day, I thought as long as a Rolex dial was installed it would still be OK, interesting Leo, thanks.

I believe that you are overthinking this....

If you are buying from a Grey Market Dealer, then it is not an AD in the first place, so talking warranty and Dealer post-service is moot.

Changing dials is common... If you want a different dial, do it..... Rolex will always service your watch as long as it is authentic and has authentic parts... it doesn't matter what it's original build dial was..

You are only talking about a couple of years warranty (if it is valid to begin with, in the US it would not be valid from a Grey) and this is something you can discuss with your Grey Dealer - after that it is altogether irrelevant.......
