I was 18 or 19 years old and a friends father had a TTDJ. I loved the way it looked. I didn't know much about Rollies back then, I just liked the watch. It was my first and Rolex. I enjoy it every time I put it on.

My late uncle had a YG Day-Date that I first laid eyes on when I was 14. From that point on, I always wanted a Rolex, but not a "dress watch".
I fell in love with the Sub, and now 13 years after seeing a Rolex for the first time I have two of my own.

Dad
It was my dad's gold Day Date Rolex purchased in 1970. He passed away in 1971 and it was handed down to my older brother, who only wore it on special occasions. The watch was subsequently handed down to my nephew when my brother passed away in 1992. I later found out my nephew sold the watch when he apparently needed some money. I could have killed that kid. I've never got over the fact that he sold a family heirloom. Long story short, a gold Rolex.

Yes, I bought my first SS Sub in 1975. Not sure when Subs had Submariner in red and I don't remember if this one did but I wish I still had it. I had another Sub, a GMT Master Black Bezel, an AirKing with a grey dial before the ones I have now. I still have few more on my wish list.

When I was younger I always loved my mothers YG DJ, I always had a thing for the brand, But never looked into the brand too much so I wouldnt give my hopes up. About 6 or 7 years ago while vacationing in Aruba I saw it... A SS Daytona for 6k... At the time I couldnt buy it, But I had to have it. New years of 07 I finally got it... The TT watch of my dreams.

I bought my first Rolex a month ago. To celebrate my 45th birthday.
I had looked for my 40th but never got round to taking the plunge (a little expensive, too). I started looking again, and I thought that is should pamper myself a little more. Rolex always had a ring to it: a sign of success, nice look, not too ostentatious, solid. The works! So, to stop the drooling, I just had to do it. |

God Father from India, Naga Nagaswami, neurosurgeon who walked barefoot across Burma to safety in his youth and who became fast friend of my parents when we lived in Mandalay, had one that he showed me when later visited us in Arizona where I was raised. It was a Date Just or Date....(1967 era) and had a fluted bezel and had some gold as I recall...very nice. I fell for that watch and decided I wanted one someday. How that translated to big tool watches like Subs and GMT's, I do not know. I got my first Rolex 35 years later.
