Silver Dial WG Daytona

I need some clarification.

I have asked my AD about the Silver Arabic Dial WG Daytona for awhile now, he says he has never received one and doesn't plan on it anytime soon. He says MSRP is around 30k.

In fact I just checked rolex.com and they are only showing the black dial. If it is no longer available what serial daytonas had the silver dial?

If this watch is in such demand at 30k I find it odd that there are a half dozen at all times on ebay for roughly 22k. http://jewelry.shop.ebay.com/i.html?...286.m270.l1313

Can someone explain to me if these are just "swapped dials"?

If they are, what are the repercussions of buying one? Is there anything in the paperwork or serial number that defines the watch as to which dial it is supposed to have?

What happens if the watch goes in for service?

Hopefully this makes a lick of sense.

I appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Well, firstly, the WG Daytona is most certainly not an in demand watch, like the rest of the 18Ct models. The only Daytona that is in demand is the SS Daytona, principally being that it is the most attainable in terms of price.

Also, you shouldn't use the Rolex website as a definitive bible for the range - it doesn't show every combination possible for the watches, and even completely omits other models (i.e. 14060M). If it's in the master catalogue, then it's available, and the silver arabic dial for the WG Daytona is most certainly in there.

As for dials, it makes no difference what dial is on the watch in Rolex's eyes as long as it's genuine. Over here, an RSC will happily do a dial change for a fee.

The reason why your AD hasn't received one and doesn't plan to is probably because it would be a poor investment in his eyes - why pour money into an 18ct model that'll only sit around for 12 months and then get sold at a hefty discount? A special order won't be an issue, but you might do better looking elsewhere for a better price. A lot of the sellers on here might be able to get hold of one for you

Hope this helps,

Chris

Chris,

Thanks for the reply.

Anyone have any imput regarding how a WG daytona will wear/scratch compared to a current model SS (polished center links)?

18ct gold (white or yellow) will scratch much more
easily than SS (the gold being softer)

Sadly, my 5 month old TT sub has numerous scratches
on the centre gold links and clasp from normal daily wear.

At the end of the day, I think you should disregard the
scratch 'issue' when deciding on your choice of watch.

They're all going to get scratched sooner or later.

You just have to live with it.

Yeah - scratch wise, all metals will eventually get scratched anyway - so don't worry too much about it. If you're planning to baby your watch, then best buy a watch winder so it looks at least beautiful on display. :D

However, regarding the white gold silver dial - there's one here at a store I frequent. I'm not sure if it's new or preowned, but if you're interested, PM me and I'll help you check. :)
