Can we review repair options again, pls? NYC.
Greetings, All:
It's time for my old Sub to go to the hospital. If you recall, this is the 60s vintage number that I got with a Jubilee bracelet. Pictures have been posted. I am in NYC. I got a very good result from the Chicago outfit on repairing my DJ, but I wasn't really blown away by some aspects of the customer service. For instance, they knew that I was waiting anxiously for my watch back (it had been over a month) and I called them for the umpteenth time and the response this time was "we're just waiting for payment." 1) They could have called me vice me calling them. 2) They made me wait an additional, unnecessary period. 3) Also, my shipping intx were NOT followed, and I had to go to the PO to pick up the watch. Avoidable time wastage. That having been said, I would consider them again, just see if I can somehow avoid the needless delay. I got the old gal's bracelet repaired, and it looks youthful and radiant. It's just that the watch will run for a period -- sometimes a long while, sometimes a short white -- then stop. Also, it is exhibiting some other bad symptoms. So I would like once again to bother my friends here for repair centre recommendations. Many thanks, and hope all have been well since my last post -- ages ago, it seems. I have engaged in a couple of PMs with users here, I am happy to report. LT SUBMADATEJUST, USN |

I have only used 2 sources: an independent pre owned dealer in Houston and Rolex NY. To me, Rolex does a great job, they followed my instructions on a 70's day date and left dial and hands intact.
Good luck. |

I would be very careful with independent watch repair facilities. Their training on Rolex watches is ambiguous. For numerous reasons, they might try to promote themselves as skilled with Rolex watches, but if you happen to be the one they screw up on, then you'll have to deal with the headache - i personally will no longer be a part of someone's learning curve, and will only use RSCs if possible.

With Rolex's policy change a couple years ago. No internet sales, shipping new watches to only AD's, and such, I would be hesitant to use any other service than a RSC.

Thanks, all. I had a pretty good conversation with RSC Chicago where they explained a way to get the thing shipped on completion. Stopped short of apologising for the delay last time, which I thought they might have done.
I'm on my way to the Post Office, so if anyone had any nuggets of wisdom, it is probably too late. I will have to give serious thought to my budget for this little enterprise. We just bought a new home in China and I think if the Sub is >$700, I may actually be unable to afford to repair her ATT! :( Thanks, Subs, LT, USN |

Actually -- does anyone know an RSC that takes for goshsakes credit cards?
Why should I write a check for $500 (or whatever) and not get points for it?! Does San Fran? Thx. |

My only concern with RSC is that they will force dial and hands replacement.
The Independent centers in Chicago and San Fran won't. Other that that I'd try to find a GOOD Rolex repair tech with a parts account. Good luck! |

Mike -I thought the place in Chicago WAS called "RSC"?
I meant the independent joint, in any event. Sutter's. Do you have the # for San Fran? thanks. |

My local guy is an ex-Seiko watchmaker from years ago who is also Rolex certified and has a parts account. He was Ronald Reagans watch guy in days gone past. Evidently the president was a bit of a WIS. :)
Neat older gentlemen who's wife is a crack up. Awesome service and very affordable. They are just a few miles away from the Beverly Hills RSC, but I go to them first. They only thing they can't get are dials and hands.
