YM: The Lost Mojo...

Sorry bad jokes on the mojo... Those who are into Austin Power movies will know
But essentially it does reflect my view on the current YM...

Cutting the long story short, I regretfully sold a "M series" YM and bought a "V series". When I received the new YM, it was with much joy to be re-united with the YM as you can imagine.

The YM happens to be my wife's favourite watch in my collection. When she saw the watch, her first comment was "this YM looks different"...

True and sadly enough, there was a subtle difference...
The dial no longer sparkles as much
I compared this with several YM from the D, P and M series...
Instead of the blasted texture, the current YM looks creamier

It used to have a million stars on a dial... perhaps a few thousands now

Don't get me wrong, the YM is still a great watch... but the mojo is gone

Sorry to hear that. My Z series has that wonderful sparkle. I too love the YM and think it's very under appreciated.

Sorry to hear that, I had no idea there were different dial textures so I learned something new...

By the way, there's a spelling error in your avatar...

I've noticed a marked difference between platinum yachtmaster dials. I can't say that it is different from series to series, but some have that grainy texture that produces the awesome sparkle, and others just seem to have a smooth texture that have only the most subtle sparkle.

I dont like hearing about the YM losing it's Mojo. But I gues I should be glad that I purchased an M series then.

I wonder why Rolex changed it's appearance? May never know I guess.

It's strange, someone posted pics. of their very new YM and I believe some were calling it a fake because the dial did not have the same look as their own dial. It is certainly panning out to be true.

Managed to find the link: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthrea...t=40684&page=2

My fault, should have checked that the same issue was brought up in another thread.

The sparkles are gone but to me the YM is still a keeper.
It's just a case of the YM losing some of its beauty

Mine has that distracting sparkle, the wife's mid-size is a much flatter "shine".

I thought I was crazy, good to see that in this case I am not.

YM is my next purchase Patrick. Underappreciated and often overlooked, the YM introduced in the early 90's will appeal to a limited few- it's not the first Rolex one would acquire but it might very well be the last for me.

Let's hope JJ swings by and gives us his .2c - he loves the YM

Most certainly do.

As far as I know, the Platinum version of this YM was introduced to us in 1997 and it's always been the same since then.

The red lettering of YACHT-MASTER used to be slightly thicker in the older models as compared with the newer ones. I got mine in Dec. 2007, brand new from my local AD. It's been my wife's favourite watch from all the Rolexes I've ever owned!!
