5517 help
I am looking around for a straight 5517 and noticed that Sotheby's is auctioning one in Geneva next month.
http://www.sothebys.com/app/live/lot...id=86&x=10&y=7 I have never seen one with a metal band and drilled lug holes - does that version exist? Any comments would be appreciated. I also emailed Sotheby's for more details also. Thanks |

I don't think they're supposed to exist, but there is a possibility it could have been modified in the past.

Bezel is also incorrect. 5517 were only delivered with full 60 minute.

Modified after it was retired from MOD service. Bezel insert should also be a 60 minute version rather than the 15 minute it currently sports.

Hey ..i thought you didnt like canvas :):):)
so when you say you want a 5517 do you mean generically you want a mislub ? that one shown actually is a 5513 milsub not a 5517...and if you log in and read the condition report you'll find it is recased to boot.. that one has been seriosuly bastardised. there is difference between the milsubs ..5513 (approx 7-800 pieces manufactured)...double reference 5513/7 (circa 150 pieces manufactured) and the 5517 (approx 150 pieces)....that is not apparent to look at but in collectability and price /value.... |

Hi Jed,
Am I mistaken that I saw these sub “T” dials in a 70-80’s US AAFES Px catalog many years ago? |

yes .. you are mistaken ..the circle T was never on sale ..it was a UK ministry of defence thing ...
there have always been some rumours that some ended up with US forces but IF, and big IF, they would have been issued pieces.. |

I'm hoping the catalogs are still at my folks. If so I will look it up when I visit. Although it was ~30 years ago, I do remember seeing a mil sub advertized. Several pages of Rolexes in the catalog. Won't that be a shocker if my teenage mind was correct?
