Help! 16710 question please

Hi all... Rookie here...I have a few GMT2 16710 questions. What is the size of the watch? I thought it was 42mm!!?!! I went to an AD and looked at one in person and it looked "small" compare to my Cosmoanute. I am confused here. Anyone out there got some side by side shots... GMT2 vs. other 42mm watches or GMT2 vs. Navitimer etc. Much much appreciated!! I am in LOVE with the 16710 Pepsi!! I am just afraid the GMT2 is "too small" !!

40mm.... Hmmm..... I like big watches... my Cosmonaute is actually my "smallest" and its at 41.5mm... I hope that fellow owners can answer my pic requests.

Welcome to TRF. The GMT II is 40mm in diameter and one of the coolest Rolex's going, in my opinion





And, with a couple of extra bezel inserts, it makes three watches in one

Saw a picture in Newsweek (Feb 26th edition I think) of Prime Minister Tony Blair of the UK with a Red/Blue GMT on. Sweet!

None of the Rolexes is 42 mm. Rolex makes the biggest is 40mm and with SD it reaches almost 41mm but not more than that.
And there's no comparison with Breitlings as they hardly make any watch 40mm, almost 99% of their models are gr8ter than 40mm and 80% are greater than 43mm.
And believe me even I used to think so as before Rolex I've owned almost evry Breitling till 44mm diameter but trust me you would not find GMT or any 400mm Rolex smaller once you start wearing them. They are just the perfect sizes I think.

Welcome. The 16710 sits lower on the wrist and seems to wear larger than other 40mm watches. Like the others have said, it's a Rolex classic.

40mm and a flat fitting classic. I would go with it, in my humble opinion anything bigger than 40mm is too large and is more of a fad. Over 40mm looks good if you are over 6'4" or 300 pounds or have 8" or bigger wrist. 40mm has always been the standard for the last 50 years.

Actually the SD is a little under 40mm. Has a smaller dial as well, but it is much thicker than all the other Rolex sport watches. The Submariner No Date is around 39mm. Explorer IIs are about half a mm smaller in Diameter than the GMTs.

I didn't know the exact measurements but as in appearance SD looks pretty much beefier than other 40mm Rolexes I thought it is slightly gr8tr than 40mm.
But anywys thnx for letting me know the real thing.

i cannot agree with that
my TT blue sub wears and feels bigger than my pepsi gmt.
The gmt and the explorer II for some reason wear smaller than the other sport rolex models..never understood why
maybe the crown and the slim case

I was always a big case afficianado. I was concerned about the 40mm max size of the Rolexes, until I began wearing the SD. The size really is fine; there's a reason why the Subs etc have been 40mm diameters for 50 years plus. Its just the right fit. Now I'm very happy with the 40mm. More than enough, and I'm a big lad.

The GMT II 16710 is, as I've written before, a lighter, flatter and more comfortable (to me) watch than the SD. The crown is small (twinlock vs triplock), the height and weight are less than the SD or Subs, and you get a second time zone and the option of changing bezel colours if you're so inclined.

I think if I had to choose one, it would be the GMT II.

Just my opinion, best of luck on your choice. Bear in mind that Rolex is phasing this model out now, and once they're all sold, you'll only be able to buy the new SS GMT II supercase/maxi dial version with one-colour ceramic beze. Great looking watch with nice advances (better clasp, non-magnetising blue Parachrom spring, etc). It will be considerably more expensive as well................

I would agree. I meant to say the 16710 wears bigger than other brands of the same size. At least in my collection.

Go with the GMT II. Picked mine up this week--all black bezel. Looks absolutely stunning, and appropriate for either casual or formal wear. IMO one of the best looking in the Rolex line. You won't be disappointed.

It isn't in the Rolex line anymore. *sniff*
