Is this rust or am I crazy or paranoid?
I was doing a detailed cleaning of my watch in which then I noticed the brownish reddish colour by the clasp. They are both the same colour on both sides. I really hope its not rust as I just got the GMTc last month. What are your thoughts? Is it rust? If so should I send it in? The watch was purchased from an AD.

I hope it's just that. I posted a few weeks ago whether a bracelet can rust so maybe it's my imagination but it does look like a copper color

Well all stainless steel can rust ... especially when in contact with saltwater or salt. It will rust first in cracks and gaps. The 904 steel rolex uses should have great rust resistance however.... |

Looks like it's just discoloration at the weld.

Its the solder from the weld, not rust.

My Sub-C looks exactly the same. It is very uniform in its appearance so I concluded it was the result of the flux/welding process.
I wanted to start a similar thread but had a lot of trouble capturing the color in photo. I suspect all of the new bracelets look exactly the same. |

Just think of it as a nice patina--the watch is starting to age.
In all seriousness-I am sure if we look at all of our watches under a microscope we will find lots of little things that will bother you if you choose to let them. Enjoy the watch and wear it in good health! Life is too short to worry about all the small stuff!!

It is not a SOLDER joint. It is a WELD.... Two entirely different processes. Be more concerned about the weld breaking then corrosion issues. |

little experiment....take an old stainless knife and put the tip in a flame(gas cooker) watch the colour change to pale gold. remove and cool then polish off the discolouration with a metal polish. the stainless steel welding industries use a paste to remove the (oxides) discolouration.
