Watch appraisal

Hi folks,

I continue to learn so, so much from the forum here. I'm hopefully on my way to a ND sub in the near future.

Anyhows, quick question. A family member has a gold airking from the 80s (I think late 80s). I've seen the watch many times over the years, but frankly the gold watch thing never caught my eye. I was wondering how one would best go about getting an approximate value? I don't see any around and I've tried searching on-line to get a ball park. I'm stumped. Will the current market value of gold affect the watch value greatly? Can you recommend any dealers who will appraise on-line (or locally in the SF bay area).

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Agree re: the gold AirKing. Could you be mistaken?

Re; Appraisals in the Bay Area...I would ask for a referral from Shreve...or another local AD.

I had a guy do appraisals on recent model watches. However, this guy simply looks up the price online or off a Rolex price sheet, photographs your watch and types up a replacement cost on his letter head. Charges a fair bit as well. Unfortunately, my insurance company requires this...so I pay.

If you have a true Vintage watch, you need someone who knows his stuff.

Post a photo of the watch here and you will get several educated opinions regarding the watch's dollar value.
