Hi All,
I'm in the market for my first Rolex and am pretty set on the Daytona. My only concern is should I go for the TT or the SS? I've always been a fan of TT, but the SS looks so sharp. I'd appreciate any and all opinions or suggestions. Thanks! |

Welcome to TRF! Great question...
Your choice of SS or TT is simply a matter of personal preference. Which look do you prefer? After you've made that decision, you'll need to know that it's almost impossible to acquire a SS Daytona from an AD. Most AD's will get a VERY limited number of SS Daytona's throughout the year (if any) and when they do get one there is usually a pretty extensive waiting list for them. Once you DO find one (a VERY lucky day) be prepared to pay a premium for it. Some AD's will still sell them at MSRP, but chances are you're going to pay 2, 3 or $4K over list to even get the watch. You can always try the grey market for the SS Daytona, but the dealers I've seen sell them for about $3 to $4k over list, and you have to understand that in buying from a reputable grey dealer you're getting genuine Rolex, but voiding the warrranty on the watch and also potentially hurting your resale value. That may not be important to you, however, if you don't plan on selling the watch ever. The TT will not only be much easier to find, but you may be able to get a pretty sweet discount depending on your AD. This becomes quite important because you're putting yourself in a situation where you may be getting a partially gold watch at the price of a stainless steel one, and naturally gold is going to be more valuable than stainless steel. Choose your favorite and post a pic when it happens. Good luck! |

Considering that they are going for roughly the same price these days (especially to a first time buyer without a relationship with an AD), I personally would go for the TT. There are a number of owners on here that have really great looking TT versions!!!

Welcome to TRF, Royce. Not wanting to influence you in any way, but I'm partial to the TT Daytona...
Best of luck with your decision, and we would LOVE to see photos of your final choice when you get it!

The TT with a Black dial looks good too. But, at the end of the day, it's your decision. Good luck - JJ

Welcome Royce
In terms of popularity it seems that the plain SS Daytona is more sought after than the TT. The choice is yours. It does seem that the TT is found at a lower price than the SS Daytona on the used market, i.e. the SS model seems to retain it's purchase price better. Good luck |

Hello Royce and welcome to TRF.
I think everyone has covered your question. A TT is available to everyone a SS model is like the Holy Grail.

And you could aways go for 18k solid gold on a
stunning croc strap. Stainless right now is a fashion trend...but it is not backed up by real value. Gold is the better buy for now and the future.

Thanks everyone for your input.
I think I am leaning more towards the TT for now. And I must say this is the most helpful forum I've ever come across. Keep up all the great work. And JJ, I love the TT blue sub, but my brother has one and I need to keep some originality |
