As far as I know, most people who buy this piece get it to wear- not to be a safe queen.

But I think to answer the title of this thread "how rare is the 341"
There are only 500 of them in the world, so I think that makes it rare. Not as rare as other peices out there but still rare. In 5 years from now this will be an interesting thread to look back on and see where the present value stands on the 341

Also to add, there has to be over 500 of the rolex 6538 big crowns in the world and look how much those go for and they are scarce and rare.. So 500 peices to a world filled with billions of people is nothing when you think about it that way and it's rarity

You are mistaken. To quote the op:

"Sigh... I was looking forward to looking at it and playing with the 341 in my house while I keep it a safequeen."

Thats why I mentioned "safequeen" & not value.

Of the billions of people you quote, most are are concerned about putting food in their bellies, not watches, so you can't simply use the world's population as a numbers game to try and reinforce your point.

first off,

i was never quoting anything you were saying.. which is why i dont understand why you're trying to clearify to me what you were talking about? my post was in reference to the title of this thread.....

second, most of the worlds population wears some type of watch or time instrument.. regardless of the price of beans, we are talking about rarity not price. but im sure collectors as well as myself are curious of the future value of any rare item..
so i think you're mistaken with what i was saying...................

while some people in the world spend their money on cars boats planes or food, there are still family treasures that are passed down, i.e. an old rolex or patek casio regardless, the people who end up with the item had to pay nothing for it, and those are the people who might be interested in the rarity and history of such an item. Then there are people who would want to know the value and sell it to make money, and theres people who won't.

regardless of me having to defend my post to you, im trying to answer a simple question of how rare a 341 is.

its like an old vintage car, if they only made 200 cars in the world, its rare, sure not everyone in some areas of the world can afford a car, but that doesnt not make it any less rare when considering the car to any other rare car in the world.

i bet you more people in this world own some kind of watch and have no car, then people who have a car but own no watch, Regardless of price.
any kind of time instrument is more common then most other things. some people cant afford a cell phone to have the time display so they have a watch, and those who don't own a clock must always be late or too early for that matter.

so again, i think comparing ANY instrument that tells time is fair enough to generally refer to a larger portion of the worlds population for such a common item REGARDLESS of price.

They sell panerai all over the world.
500 total made of a certain model watch in the WORLD is rare to me and to others.

need i say how many think a daytona is rare and how many rolex has made.... i own ss daytona and had a very hard time finding one brand new at msrp so for the amount rolex has made, it is still rare in my book, esp with the new model daytona coming out soon, just wait to see what happens to the current style daytonas.. there is already talk of it.

I've never disputed the fact that the 341 has been made in small numbers, or as you call it, "rare". But when comparing Earths human population of seven billion to five hundred watches as a means in trying to illustrate your point is not credible.

I'd be very interested to see where you got the information "most of the worlds population wears some type of watch or time instrument.. "

Where did you get this data from? What study has been made & where is it produced or have you just written it for the sake of writing it?

its called google. and also common sense. i cannot think of anything more common than a clock or a watch. its as common as owning a refrigerator..

but after your comments im sure you own niether?

i dont really care what you think or have to say anymore...

what in your mind made you think i was directing my comment to you in my original post on page 2 about the rarity of the 341?? did you see a quote of yours i was responding to? NO! you didnt!
i was generally speaking about the thread.. i never wanted to talk to you. learn how to use the forum before you keep making stupid comments.

Now looking back im sure you see NO QUOTE in my original post..

Well, SubKing, we will have to agree to disagree. If you read my post (above) you will see how I cited what you wrote, but you won't address that point. Nor will you provide any evidence that backs up your argument about the Earth's population wearing a watch.

If you had quoted the fact Panerai only make about 40,000 watches per year & 500 is just over 1% of that & how that percentage will get smaller as the years roll on by as production continues, that would have been a more efficient way of making a point IMHO.

Wishing you the best of health to enjoy your watches & TRF.

Tony

this is when you responded to my post which was never directed to you. i was speaking about the topic in general... what is there not to understand..

now you're saying im avoiding your questions?

let me repeat my question. why did you post that comment above i have quoted? i was never talking to you in the first place.

are you one of those kind of people who thinks the world revolves around you and everyone is speaking to you and about you?

give me a break. your posts are more like attacks and obviously im not the only one that thinks so esp when my initial posts were never directed towards anything you were saying.

you're clearly starting forum drama, and that means pulling something out of thin air and turning it into BS and thats exactly what you're doing here.. hanging on my every word trying to call me out on false information, now you're turning this convo into things that have nothing to do with panerai based on examples i was giving to better clearify myself..

have to go back to work now..

As I said, SubKing, we will have to agree to disagree. I was quoting Panerai production numbers and you were quoting fridges and cars...

As I said previously- enjoy TRF and your watches.

Tony, Marc - I hate to see two good guys get into it over a watch. You're both terrific fellas and valuable TRF members. No reason to get into heated arguments over a hobby

For the record: I never called anyone any names- like 'Zodiac' and 'Keyboard Commando'.
