How to resell?

Hi all,

I have what is probably a stupid question, but I'm going to ask anyway. I'm in the market to buy my first Rolex (and in fact my first pricey watch). I want to know that I can resell it later for whatever reason. So my question is, how do people typically resell Rolexes? Assuming I have the original box, serial card, etc., would people take me seriously as a legitimate seller?

I guess what I'm really asking is, how easy is it to resell if you're not a dealer or high-volume, well-known reseller?

Funnily enough I was just thinking the exact same thing myself.

I've a 16700 GMT Master that I'm (thinking about) selling in order to get a late-F Sea Dweller. I was going to go with "long time lurker, first time seller" on all the usual sites (TZ, Rolex Forum, etc.).

This is a problem to any newly-registered person.

I would say, from humble experience, make yourself known. Go to get-together meetings, let people see your face and build confidence in the community. This is how you should be able to sell direct.

Another option would be to sell to one of the known names here, or to a dealer in your area. Of course, this will cost you a certain % of the price but you should have no issue with that.

I sold my first couple of watches at another forum a little past my 700th post and a year of membership + lots of offline communication with recognized/established folk. Two transactions went smooth as butter. Third one is on the way.

Some of the trusted sellers here accept trades. I traded my LV for a TT GMT II. Bought the LV used and it cost me $100 to wear it for a year. That includes roping calfs and bailing hay in the thing.

Do you have any other "references" anywhere?

While my post count is low here, it's high on Watchuseek and I have been on Ebay since 1999 with a 100% feedback record...

Give an accurate and detailed description of what you are selling...
Post nice big clear photographs of the watch in question....
Offer a return policy...
Give a phone number where the buyer can call you and discuss the purchase...
Be patient....
It may take a while because you have no track record but it will happen.....

Well if you are thinking of buying a Rolex and before you actually get one your are already asking how to sell it.I would wait before you are 100% sure you really want to buy a Rolex.Buying a Rolex watch is something that will last you a life time and beyond,if you just give it its normal routine service then after wearing that watch for many years in good health I hope.And if you wanted to sell it you would have no problem,and if the watch you had worn for many years gave you a good return on original bought price.Just think of it as a added bonus to the enjoyment of wearing and owning one of the finest watches on the planet today thats whats buying a Rolex is about IMHO.

You will be able to sell the watch here or on ebay, I have sold 2 rolex watches over the past year or so, may take a month or so but it will happen. However you need to be careful not to get ripped off, on any site there will be people who will want scam you.
