Ah! Thanks Mon!
Not sure if that 'rumor' is true or not.

Maybe Eric, Dan, Mik or Chris can shed some light on this.

I was in Italy twice last year. When the dollar was peaking against the euro, it was cheaper (if you subtract the VAT that we get refunded) When I went back later in the year, when the dollar slipped, so it wasn't.

I ended up buying a JV strap from the Florence boutique and paid $261.98 after exchange and refunded VAT. I'm not interested in buying a watch from Europe and having to get stuck paying duty on my return.

i think Europe is less expensive.. on another forum a member listed this years new price list and they were increased supposedly... my pam 341 retail there is 19,000.00 euro which in USD is 28,328.99 and this price is after the European price increase for 2011 and here in the US before our new price increase which hasnt hit yet is currently a bit over $29,000.00..

which means if i went to Europe about 5 months ago i could have saved a grand if i bought my watch there.

all of these prices are in euro and are the new 2011 price list:

so all in all, i would think US is more money on pams based on the info i provided which really shocked me when i saw these new euro prices and many models have raised in price according to this price list, but are still less money when converted to USD and compared to current US pricing.. does anyone have any word when the US price increase will hit for this year?

Assuming the exchange was $28,329.99, you would have made out... not significantly, but still. I imagine you would have charged it (AMEX charges 2.7%) plus you pay duty upon return ($800 exemption and 10% on anything over that) Your total amount would look something like this:

$ 28,329.99 (USD)
+ $ 537.30 (AMEX international transaction fee)
- $ 3,980.00 (VAT Refunded)
+ $ 2,752.99 (Duty upon arriving in US)
= $ 27,640.28
