Leather strap

Ok - I know this topic has been covered before. But I am looking for some fresh advice. What leather strap do you recommend for Datejust (1162XX)?

I have read some of the commentary on the Hirsch Principal Leonardo -- which looks great with its curved ends. But it also sounds difficult (plastic inserts, must be drilled out, etc.).

Is Hirsch the way to go? Any other recommendations?

Oh -- and what about deployant clasp models -- are there any?

I have basic Rolex made black Java lizard strap on my DJ. No curved ends, no deployant
& w/ a Rolex buckle. Works for me.

I've got a Leonardo strap, and I'm pretty sure it won't fit a DJ well, at all. The curved end is a great fit for the Omega sport models and a good fit for Sub's, but as I remember, the end pieces are just too big for the DJ. You have adjustment on the strap, but there is no fixing the fit problem.

I've got a gold DJ from the 60's that I wear with a couple different straps-- probably Hirsch and Hadley Roma. Almost all the strap makers have nice options available for DJ's, but they won't have that fitted look of the Leonardo. Black or other dark straps tend to blend into the gap between the watch case and strap, and the gap is not very noticeable. I prefer gator or croc straps and try to find ones that are at least 3mm at the lugs. However, 3.5mm and 4mm are better. Decent croc straps are available for under $100.

As to the deployant question, are you asking about straps for the Breitling style depoyants?

Most deployants are made to fit the standard strap that has a tang buckle and holes for adjustment. You just need to find the correct size.

Brietling style straps are made to be used with a deployant, only, and they have no holes or tang buckle. The deployant is made for that kind of strap.
