Question form a newbie do u think Rolex actually approves of this "o man bro I bad to wait two years for this watch" I guess some people There friends ? And really two years I mean they most make thousands of these watches per year ? Is there really that kind of demand for a 11k steel chrono? If so who ever does the marketing for Rex should do obama's reelection campaign

To do that, you will obviously need to locate one first - either from high street AD and have it transferred to the terminal you are flying out or get one from the airside AD.
Then again, most of the budget airline terminals do not have a Rolex AD.....

Flying a budget airline to a fellow European country is another story...

i wrote earlier that eg in the tenerife shop i bought my sub few days ago they had all daytona models but even here in budapest, hungary daytonas are in the shop window of the official ad.
both destinations are quite cheap to reach from the uk, budapest even can be done in a day (if you squeeze in an appointment with a dentist you can even save on the trip).

It all depends on where you live. In e.g. UK, France or Sweden the waitlist really is a couple of years. Certain parts in the US you might be able to buy one right away if you are lucky (more likely TT or gold Daytona's though). Here in the DC area I have never seen a ss Daytona sitting in a case or store window. Ever. In 15 years.

I'll go as far as saying I have never, ever seen a SS Daytona sitting at an AD - ever.

Tourneau Time Machine did away with the waiting list but they don't have any in stock (yes they have gold and TT just like every other AD. whoopie, who doesn't!). Some members claim their AD's have them in stock. I PM'ed some of them to find out where and didn't get a single response for a SS Daytona- how strange! I say BS until someone provides a name of an AD. I got a few stating that they have TT but who cares. You can get a TT at a discount. If we're ONLY talking SS, there are zero here in NY...none. Period.

When I decided to finally buy my Daytona, I called every dealer in NYC and every AD I could find within 500 miles - None had one. I ended up going through DavidSW

Agreed. I can walk into any AD and purchase a TT or YG Daytona but a SS will be like finding a unicorn run down Madison Avenue.

They are all over the Diamond District...but obviously they are not AD's! I bought a V series with all the upgrades for $150 under the msrp at the exchange.

I know at least three ADs within a 1/2 hours drive which stock at least one SS Daytona in the shop front, though you'll be paying China prices...

i've never scene one in a case here or in Vegas either.
Makes me wonder how it works though? Do the AD's buy only once a year?
Makes little sense. Car dealers call the factory for special orders. I wouldn't think in this day and age, a dealer of anything wouldn't be able to get fresh stock at intervals as short as a week or month, not counting lead time.

ADs place their special orders at Basel in March, and then watches are distributed on a monthly allocation. Rolex sends a list through, tells them what's available, and the AD can choose what to have from that. On steel sports models, you can't just phone up Rolex and ask them to send you one, as they don't keep them in stock - they get a shipment from Switzerland, and off they go. For other models, it's not an issue, they often keep stock, handy for obscure combinations on Datejusts and for precious metal models.

This, of course, is how it's done in the UK. I know Rolex USA has some strange policies, but I can't see them having a radically different distribution system

Not exactly the same in the US. You(AD's) can place orders all year long, even on sports watches. Also they send you watches during the year that you didn't even place an order for. The area Rolex reps, keeps track of the their AD's sales and stock and places orders accordingly. Of course a lot depends on what Rolex USA has in stock.

Go to Adler's in New Orleans. The "waitlist" won't be longer than it takes a salesperson to greet you. They have them at several of their locations.

In a previous thread that was like this one (this topic seems to come up every couple of weeks) I did just that and got a pm within the hour. I directed to buyer to my ad, and as far as I know, he bought the black faced SS daytona that had been sitting in their case for over a month at msrp. I know you wont find one in NYC, but they are definitely in windows at ads in Florida...

When I got my white one, I just ordered from a TRF seller, took me less than 5 minutes to get one.

Come to Florida and buy one from our ADs...

Why waste time sitting on an AD waiting list? Pick one up today from a trusted seller on any of the forums, including this one. I never understood waiting for the "privilege" of buying from an AD....

Waiting list? Why would you ever wait on some list? A simple PM to David, Oscar, or Tony will have one delivered at your doorstep within a few days.

2 years no. It's not like I see one everytime I go into an AD but at least three times a year someone tries to sell me one. I have never seen one on display they keep them in the safe.
