Is it 100% safe to buy from A.D.?
Hello everyone, I'm very new to the Rolex Forum community. I'm here to see what you all think about shopping from an A.D. Precisely, I want to know when an A.D. claim a watch they sell is brand new, is there any chance that it could be lying to us for a near mint watch? If so, what are the things that I could watch out for to avoid getting scammed? Thank you all in advance!

And look at the serial numbers. They don't really discount their leftover inventory.

Thanks for the quick response! To be more specific, I've been looking for a brand new 36mm explorer I. This one shop that I went to in CA had one and it was a D series. It didn't have the repeated rolex branding in the inner rim and it still has the green hologram sticker in the back of the watch. When I looked at the watch upclose, I noticed the Ref # (114270) on the hologram looks a bit smurdged, but the clear protective sticker was still there. Could this be a sign of wearing? It was an A.D. and they claimed that watch was 100% brand new with all paper work. I was about to pull the trigger but my gut feeling held me back. What could I look for to ensure this is indeed a brand new watch, given the D series is a bit old for the current market?? Help!! Thanks!

It may be brand new, but tried on by every Tom, Dick & Harry, that walked in the store in the last 5 years...

Make sure all the stickers are on. Yeah, for sure its been tried on by a few people, but as long as it doesn't have any scratches or marks, why worry?

Also forgot to mention that the links on that watch felt a bit loose, not tight like some other ones I tried on there. the shop did offer me a decent discount, that's why I felt a bit extra suspicious. but, wouldn't A.D. get in lots of trouble if they sell used watch as new? this is why i'm torn. knowing A.D. should be legitimate, but all the signs on the watch seems like it could be used?

If the bracelet seems loose then maybe a lot of people have tried it on LOL. When you buy BNIB AD's register with Rolex. Guess that's another way to check its not been sold before?

Not to be rude about it, but do you really think a retailer would jeopardize their multi-million-dollar business relationship with Rolex to scam you out of $2000?
An authorized dealer that acted that way won't be authorized for very long.

A display watch never has all stickers on it and has been through quiet a few wrists. D series watch, well thats quiet a few years old, therefore it is not BNIB.

The watch is new old stock. It is a D series which is quite old. I would not even consider it unless it was discounted heavy...like 30-35%. It is more of the issue of resale value than anything else to me. I buy/resell and the older unengraved rehat command a substantial lower price. The watch is fine and Rolex will warranty it for 2 years but most buyers except for vintage would like a discounted newer style

...assuming it IS brand new...
...they will fill out the warranty papers/card etc in YOUR name...
...if they do that, then you can rest assured the watch IS new. |
