I would the the AP RO Jumbo White face over a Daytona, I feel that AP is a notch higher then Rolex and the AP RO is a design masterpiece by Gerald Genta and a tue classic so that would be my choice, but then again a SS Daytona White face is also very nice...

If you only problem right now is that you cannot choose what to buy between an AP RO or a Rolex Daytona you are pretty fortunate IMHO.... ;-)

Daytona you can wear as a daily beater, even the yg one! I have an AP ROO Volcano and it is a beautiful watch with a detail to finish which is amazing but it can not be the only watch in your collection. Two totally different price points in the UK unless you go grey.

I cannot understand the love for one of the THE ugliest designed watches I have ever seen in the Royal Oak! I don't see anything appealing about that big, blocky, Terminator design at all! However, I do understand that not everybody has my same taste and I do respect that many like it.

It is soooooo ugly though! :D

To say AP RO is one of the ugliest design is a bit strong, but i understand where you are coming from. The first time I saw an AP ROO and AP RO, I thought it looked like a toy watch and did not understand the high price tag. However, after owning numerous watches in either round or square face... I started to appreciate the uniqueness of AP RO and AP ROO... I feel that AP ROO combines the softness of a circle with the masculine line of octogon to achieve that perfect balance of visual effect. It is a truely unique looking watch from its form and shape, and not many watch brands can say that about their product.

i think that if we are comparing a SS Daytona to a SS ROC and we are basing the decision on pricing then i woud lean towards the Daytona. i mean the ROC retails for around 19 while the Daytona retails around 13 correct?

dont take me wrong the ROC is beautiful but the Daytona is iconic.

Any input is much appreciated.
I have not owned a Daytona but have had several RO's and ROO's. I love the 15300 but I had a hard time using them for a day to day watch. The finishing is very beautiful but also gets marked pretty easily. The bezel, because of its sharp edges, also seems prone to nics and scratches. While some watches don't look bad with a little wabi, to me, the RO is not one of them. A worn 15300 looks awful and in need of refinish. So, for me, it was not a watch that was utilitarian enough. I like to enjoy my watches and I found I really had to baby my 15300's. AP service is also extremely pricey, so keep that in mind.

I had my suspicions for the 15300 and you confirmed them 100%.

Bezel is a magnet for knocks, nics and scratches and the service is notoriously expensive.
But i still want it desperately !!!

Great Question!

I love Rolex's but especially vintage sport Rolex's, however off late I have begun to love AP ROO LE (Royal Oak Offshore Limited editions).

I know Limited Editions is what watch companies do these days to create hype and sell watches, but whats wrong in buying something thats less available and easy to buy.

Right now I prefer wearing an AP for every day use and vintage Rolex's and Patek's on more special occasions.

However when it comes to AP's you can get a great discount, never buy at RRP.

Me personally I feel ( I know a lot of people are going to hate me for saying this in the forum). However I think the current model steel Daytona has sort of lost its charm and uniqueness a little, and I think today look very cool on a woman)

I would go with an AP ROO LE if possible. Right now I am trying to look for a nice Jarno Trulli AP.

cheers

I've since sold some of the Rolex's above

Please remember that the AP RO was introduced in 1970 and the PP nautilus was introduced in 1971, these watches were designed by Genta and Rolex copied the design on the oyster quartz.

Harry Tan is one of the most respected internet authorities on watches.

Here's his 15300 review. You have to scroll down for the pic montage. Like your pic- it's seriously impressive.

Great pics everyone! I would love to have both (or either), but recently the current black dial Daytona has caught my eye. I think it is by far the best looking Daytona (and chronograph) produced up to date, which is rather odd since I dont care for the rest of the current line up. Not sure what to make of the upcoming model but I hope it wont be a retro look, I thought it was a rather dull move that Rolex brought back the 1655 hand on the new EXP2.
