Can you wind a panerai while the clasp is down

Entry level Pam question, Can you wind a Pam while the clasp is in the closed position??

You can but it isn't recommended per the owner's manual.

I always thought having the arm flop around whilst winding was NOT the way the watch was to be wound...but I was told differently here on TRF.

So open the clasp / arm whatever and leave it open while winding and close when done. Otherwise, you may ruin the seals or so I am told.

You can do it, but what you are doing is causing friction with metal (the crown) against rubber (water proof gasket). This contact is what makes your watch waterproof and you are prematurely wearing it down by doing so.

Just open the crown!
