Hey guys....

(Good news) My AD has contacted me 2 hours ago and told me that my new SS GMT is waiting for me to collect it.
(Bad news) I am broken broke. I just came back from my holiday vacation with empty pockets.
Should I sell my YM and buy the new GMT?

Yes or No

I will decide according to the responses

If it was me, I'd say "yes" but it's obviously a personal decision

No. I would not. You already have a beauty with a Maxi-Dial. Selling is a hassle too.

If you are happy with the YM, then keep it. Otherwise you will loose money. If you prefer the SS GMT II over the YM, then go for it. They are both good watches. Also what feature do you require more? If you need to record elapsed time often (cooking, running, swims, internet usage, SCUBA diving etc...) then keep the YM ( or if you have a Yacht or go boating, as it fits in). If you need a dual time function, for travel or bussiness purposes then you may want to check on the GMT. (I would be lost without a dual time watch, as I need to keep track of the time in the USA, while I am overseas).

Best of luck in your choice. Sometimes though, it is better to just be content and give God thanks for what you already have. If you sell the YM, you may regret it.

Keep the YM it is only going to go up in price and someday you will want it back. Then you will pay even more to get it the second time. The new
SS GMT is just that, new it is not going anyplace. The "rush" to be the first on the block to have it will end like it did with the LV Sub. The SS GMT will become common place and soon you will walk into any AD to find them in the case. Who knows you might even get a discount on a SS GMT if you wait a bit.

I would have to agree with Rich...
I think that unless you need the GMT feature...you're feeling pressured because it's the newest thing.
I'd like to see the ceramic bezel, maxi dial and the new case on all the sports models...and some say it might be going in that direction.
So if it's just the look you like...I'd wait. It'll be more common sooner than you think.
Besides...your YM is a classic!

It's a personal choice, but I sure wouldn't. The Plat/SS YM is one of my favourite Rolex, and it isn't as though the GMT supply is going to stop.

i'd say hold on to the YM. its true what said above about all the hype in getting it new caused the price to remain high and waiting a bit might be the wise thing to do.

i don't think either model is going to be collectible anytime soon.

love the new GMTII... but i wouldn't trade it with my YM...... ever

Well, so far looks like the general opinion for you is for you to stay with your YM. I really like the Bezel on the YM as well. Uni-directional, very smooth, and the raised numbers is classy and sporty. Plus you have the maxi-dial already and the YM also has the rounded off edges on the case. Very comfortable.

A Rolex can be a sizable chunk of change for some folks.

If you love your YM, then you might regret getting rid of it. However, I am not a YM fan so I would get that GMT in a heart beat.

The GMT is a useful and stunning work of art. It can go underwater with you, travel to other countries, take an ocean cruise, and go to the ball.

The YM can time your eggs - OK....OK.....Before you all start flaming I am just kidding.

Bottom line is, if you are a "I can only swing one Rolex" person....You have a tough decision, but in the end....do not look back and torment yourself with that decision.

Overextending yourself for your 1st Rolex is one thing (I remember it). Doing it on a second (unnecessary?) one is another. Will they give you a decent trade-in? You could also say you were mugged on Holiday and if you were insured...just kidding.

If money is an issue right now I would hold onto the YM. In fact, even if money wasn't an issue I'd hold onto the YM. It is a beautiful watch. The GMTII is the "Flavor of the Month" right now but no one is going to put down a YM! I'd wait for your finances to balance out again. So what if you have to wait a year or two? It's not like the Sub has changed much in the last 20 years. The new GMTII will probably be there 20 years down the road too!

Well, I see no point (or sense) in taking a financial hit on the YM. Hang on to it for now....and later on when the HYPE on the new GMT-II has died off a bit, perhaps a better discount will be available....and you can then have your proverbial cake and eat it too!!

Plenty of chance to get your hands on a GMT in the future, and even if you eventually picked up another Yammie, it wouldn't have the same sentimental value. Why have one when you can have both?
