Course too easy for a U.S. Open

Is this course setup too easy for a US Open? I've always enjoyed the US Open because of the incredibly difficult conditions, thick rough, etc.
This tournmanent seems to have a whole lot competitors under par.

Love what Rory is doing, and it does not diminish ANY respect I have for him or his amazing achievement. He is an entirely deserving champion, and I offer congratulations.

Just would have liked to have seen the course have more teeth this week.

well they talked about this fact during the weekend. One thing they mentioned though was the invariable of the weather. The weeks leading up to it they had a ton of rain which made the green incredibly soft, so much so that they stopped watering the course to try and dry it out. I think the course is plenty hard, it was just an optimal weather condition for the weekend, no wind, soft greens, soggy fairway that the whole field was able to take advantage of. Just one way of looking at it.

A buddy is a member at CCC. Normally the conditions are warm and humid this time of year, which means the fairways and greens are fast and hard while the players suffer the elements. Wasn't the case this year b/c of the weather. Guys were able to control their drives and approaches.

I agree that the scores were very low but on the other hand, those fairways were really narrow too.

This is payback for Shinnecock in years past. The USGA's fixation on par is a little ridiculous. You simply cannot control the weather. Rory makes for a wonderful champion.

All the other guys had the same course to play and they couldn't go -16. The fairways were tight, bunkers well placed, and greens were fast enough.

I live in the area and attended one of the rounds. We had a mini-drought leading up to the US Open, so the rough could not grow in as well as it should have, then the week prior and the actual tournament week were very rainy. These guys are all so long that rain is their friend.

I've always had a problem with the way the USGA set up their courses. I see players hit great shots and then roll off hte back and into a gulley. You shouldn't have to hit 2-irons to the roof of a VW Beetle on every hole. That's not golf.

To me it played like a PGA Championship.

That said, I much prefer the British Open to any other Major.

I honestly think the USGA set the pins up on Sunday to give it to Rory and didn't want any chance for him to blow the lead like in the Masters. Championship sunday is supposed to have the toughest pin positions... but the field was taking dead aim on sunday and scoring low. It's almost like they wanted him to set the US Open scoring record so that they can hype him further... sorry... I'm not buying it.

Also... the rough could have been thicker. When pros are shooting for pins from the thick stuff... it's too easy.

I thought the scores were way too low. Too many golfer finished under par. I think E to -5 is perfect but I understand the USGA does not want to kill the greens for the members. Golf course maintenance is TRICKY business. I think longer rough would have done the job without risking the greens. I heard today they cut the rough 2 weeks ago and it did not grow any due to a lack of rain.

Either way I enjoyed Rory's play. He would have kicked everybody's butts even if they had moats and alligators surrounding the greens.
