Daytona"s

My first post on the forum so figure me if this is a stupid question.

I have a SS Daytona White that I wear and now have a SS Daytona Black that will be in next week. Curious to no which is the "beter" watch.
My white face was bought in 04 if that matters.

Thanks in Advance

Welcome!

Wow! Congrats on getting the "set"! Many wait a long time to have one or the other.

I don't think one is "better" than the other..they're the same watch. Some do feel one is easier to read than the other though.
As to which is more popular, my guess is it's about even. I think you may be the first member to have both so it'll be GREAT to get your feelings as to which you prefer.

Congrats and well done!

Hi
Also in this case maybe you can do a test for me, to rest me assured. If you pull out your crown to set the time, then turn the crown a little in a counter clockwise or clockwise position (little enough for the time not change) will that make your second's hand sweep on the opposite side?

Hi ok let me try to explain better. On my daytona, if I pull the crown completely to set the time, when I slighlty turn the crown clockwise it will make the second's hand sweep on the opposite side for 2-3 seconds. Turn the crown just to the point where you feel the minutes hand will move and thats when it does it. Is that normal? I have the "P" series which has the Zenith Movement.
Hope this is better!
Thanks
David

That's really strange. I've never had it happen on my GMT, or heard of it on the forum, but I also don't own a Daytona. I'm sure another Daytona owner will be along to help you sort it out. Probably Mike or Allan (Prince). Little help, guys!?

Yeah it didn't do it with my SUB either, but I just wanted to know if that was a normal thing, because other than that it keeps great time!

I've never experienced this either.

I'm not a watchmaker but I wonder if it's just the gears lining up!

My GMT II has done this when it has run down. It is nothing to worry about.

Quite normal on quite a few watches with non hacking or hacking movements you can stop/move the second hand with slight backward/forward resistance on crown. Now the Zenith movement some say it was downgraded by the change from 36000 Bph to the 28800 Bph by Rolex. Now the Zenith El Primo movement has been around since the middle 1960s.And its one of the most respected and well proved chronos in this world today. And now are very collectable with prices going upward. And IMO will in the vintage world command a higher price than any of the in-house powered ones.

Over here the black dial is selling at a slightly higher premium than the white dial, but that's not to say the black dial is 'better.' It just means the black is much sought after, that's all.

I wonder why? Somebody told me the black dial is more popular in Asia. Is that true?

Judging from the going rate, yes, the black is more popular, but I'm not sure if this is perculiar in Asia only.

A fellow WIS once told me that a white dial age less well compared to the black. That patina will show up more on a white dial and it can also turn yellowish over time.

What do you think?
