5513 Serial Number & Face Questions

My watch and face are driving me nuts. The serial is 2472XX (anyone have an ideea what date this is??). The face has the feet = meters. The thing I am having probelms with is when I look at other 5513's like this the hour markings all "appear" larger. the dots are larger around. The 12 hour triangles seem larger too.

So, what I am saying is I am having trouble matching my face up with other watches on the web.

Any idea if the dial is a good dial? O - the other thing that is bothering me is the tritium appears to be painted on and it is not even. it also is not turning yellow like other 5513's I have seen with the ft = m like mine.

Any help would be appreciated

Are you sure that you have the correct number of digits for the SN? I could imagine it being from the 2 million series, but in the 200K serials it would be from the early 1940s which would be incorrect.

As far as the dial, it looks as if the tritium is starting to flake-off or that it was a bad relume. I just cannot tell from the picture. Give me a little better pictures, and a little more information, and we could get somewhere

That serial puts it in 3rd to 4th quarter of 1968, which would make a correct and early "feet first"dial. Open caseback and if original to the watch will confirm this. Dial looks fine to me and looks like the tritium is flaking off. Not all dials change colour the same so just because there is no patina not necessarily an issue. The markers on your watch are pre "maxi" and is why they seem smaller. Bezel seems to be newer as is not "fat font". All in all more pics would help but I wouldn't sweat the small stuff. Vive La difference!!
Enjoy your 5513

for perspective - my 5513 is a 1.7 million serial number (meters first), was produced in 1967 and sold in 1969. Your case back should have a date stamp on the inside of it.

Ooops!

Having great taste in watches doesn't mean I am smart (juts good looking...)...

O, and one other question... what would you find an acceptable +/- for this watch? I think it needs servicing (which is another minor hell finding someone i trust in Denver). The watch has lost 40 seconds in one day (24 hours).

Thanks for your help!

face

Hi,

I dont have a macro lens of any kind. this is a little bit better than the previous one. It is obvious the crystal needs replacing, tho....

The dial looks fine to me, but hey I'm no expert.

As for keeping good time....well 40 seconds per day variation is too much. Your watch definitely needs regulation and possibly a service as it may be overdue.

You could at the same time get a new crystal

Congrats on a great watch anyway

also...

One thing... I have had this for 9 years. My girlfriend bought it for me because I had to sell my previous one in some very bad and ugly times. I just paid her back with a 14060M (see below)... of course the first thing she did was remove the beacelet :-). Gotta love it...

Anyway, getting her this kind of reawakened my interest in the particulars of the 5513. O, and BTW. I got it for her at Castle Jewelers in Lexington, KY from Tracie. I mention that because i am really happy with the transaction - in case anyone is looking for a dealer.

Your watch is from ~ 1969 - 1970. Flaking tritium would be my guess. Doesn't look too bad though. I would send it to Bob Ridley for a service if it were mine

BTW, I think that 14060M looks GREAT on your girlfriend. I have tried to get my wife interested, but she thinks it is too big for her wrist. I finally got her a Turn O Graph at 36mm and she loves it.

Guess it is good because she will just stay away from my subs.
