Newbie from Vancouver

Hello everyone,

I'm a newbie in this great forum and need some advice from you experts.

I have been always having a negative opinion to Rolex but after experienced Omega, IWC and Pams, I can't resist to own a Rolex diver.

Here is my dillemma: my wrist is somewhat small but I'm a big fan of divers.

The new DSSD is way too heavy and big for me, so I'm thinking about 16600 or new sub ceramic. I personally hate cyclops (no offense...just my taste), and my decision seems very clear.
However, I also hate SD's ugly & cheap looking bracelet and the new sub bracelet looks so awesome to me.

So my question is: should I go for 16600 or the new sub ceramic model???

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Sub c gets my vote. But is recommend you go try it on first to make sure it fits ok.

The SD 16600 is an awesome watch. The size works very well for a small wrist (personal experience). However, the new bracelet on the Sub-C may work better for it has an additional removable link.

Wow...two bad choices for you.

Get a Sub which you will hate using to check the date.

Get a Sea Dweller / hate the clasp.

Maybe you should wait a year after Basel 2011 to see if the No Date Sub gets updated with the glidelock bracelet?

i think you'll get used to the cyclops

i used to hate the cyclops as well since it reminds me of old man watches but dont mind it anymore

How about getting the SubC and have the cyclops removed? There are a few here who have done that and the results are great. You can have the cyclops reinstalled in case you want them in the future or going to sell the watch.

I'd go for the Sub C if I were you. Like stated above you can always have the cyclops removed or swapped for a non cyclops crystal.

Between the two, I'd recommend the Sub Ceramic. You'll learn to appreciate the cyclops :D

It has the terrific new bracelet and clasp.
If you get sick of looking at the cyclops you couls have a profesional watchmaker remove it. I would never do this because I love the look of the cyclops.

First welcome to TRF but that bracelet like you call it,the SD's ugly & cheap looking bracelet .Has a well proved track record for many decades without any problems whatsoever.So you should never judge anything just by looks,while the new clasp might prove to be a improvement. Its still got a long way to go and to be well tested in the field so to speak. And already there have been a few reported problems with the welds failing on these types of clasps.You could try the non date sub the last of the classic Rolex but expect you would not like that because of the clasp.Although these bracelets and clasps have been used and when they were used as tools watches sometimes abused.After all its only been tested on millions upon millions of Rolex watches without any problems.

If you really hate the cyclops, why don`t go with SD?
It`s bracelet is not as fancy as new one on Sub C, but it`s sturdy and well proven during many years of production and exploitation. Between the two, SD would be my choice, just because old-style case, that I prefer.
And about Sub C...well, it`s not big problem removing cyclops at all (I`m cyclops fan, so I wouldn`t do it)...search through the forum and you`ll certainly find pics of Rolex watches with cyclops successfully removed.

I can't comment on the bracelet as haven't got one, but surely it can't be that bad. The watch is miles more important than the bracelet IMO.

I would go with the Sub C as you can have the cyclops removed by a professional, but if you don't like the idea of doing that go with the SD

Get the 14060, Sub. Wears a bit smaller, no date, no cyclops, just a classic.

I personally love the cheap bracelets, you could get the Sub-C and have the cyclops removed shouldn't cost much to do that mod.

Thanks for all the comments, you guys. I think TRF is much more friendly to a newbis like me. Some forums are very cold to newbies and it takes a while to feel comfy in new forums based on my personal experiences.

well, I already have more than enough SEIKO divers, which are at least 30 years old or more. as I said, I also own PAM233, IWC 3717 and SM 300. the reason I used to hate Rolex is that the price is unreasonbly high for its quality. However, its brand power and public reputation & recognition make me to want to own Rolex divers in the end. The one SEIKO vintage I have is extremly rare to find and I had to lurk in Japan auction for a while and cost me quite a lot, but none recognizes its value: especially, my wife who ask me how much it cost and shocked at how much actually I spent.
