Greeting from the US Air Force

Hello all,

I just had to be original and put that in there. And yes, I am in the US Air Force stationed in beautiful, sunny California...for now.

It all started with my parents giving me a nice Tag Heuer Formula 1 (Red Dial) for college graduation as a gift. That was for my bachelors degree.

Now that I am undergoing my masters I told my wife I want a Rolex for my graduation for my masters degree. She said, "OK". !!!

Now since perusing the internet and initially looking at ebay for Rolex's I found this forum. I enjoy forum's, I am a part of a A/V forum (AVS) for help on purchasing my AV equipment and am now part of this forum with hopes on finding that perfect Rolex. I plan on owning only one (I say that now - haha) as that will be a large purchase for me and my wife. And hope you guys help me in choosing the right one.

Sub vs Explorer II vs GMT II - those are my choices so far...

Welcome to the forum from a former Blue Beret. After my initial four year tour with the USMC, I served with the Security Police in the New York Air national Guard. I throughly einjoyed my five years with the unit.
As to which watch to buy, I suggest trying them on at an AD and pick the one you feel you like best. As someone once said; pick the one that sings to you.
Having owned an Explorer II, I now own a TT, Bluesy Sub and a Sub C, I can highly recommed any Submariner to you. Sub C is larger and more rugged but the standard sub is simply one great watch. You're gonna' find that no matter what Rolex you choose, it will be a top quality watch that you'll love for many, many years to come. Good Luck.

Nothing too big. Just a samsung 8500 led, pioneer vsx 1020, with two definitive technology towers BP 7004 and a clr 2500 center. Live in an apartment - boy do I feel bad when I play my movies. But I usually only play them loud when its weekends and early evenings. Was gonna go panasonic vt series plasma but the wife does a lot of cable tv watching and there are big sources of light in the room.

For me it's a toss coin between the SubC and GMT IIC. For you I suggest you try them on. I guarantee you will make a good decision either way.

About HT, I'm also at AVS but usually just lurk around there. Currently I'm trying to decide between the 64" Sammy 8000 series and 65" Panny VT30 for my new room.

What helped me to decide was the amount of light in the room and the type of viewing I would be doing. I needed an all arounder and the 8500 suited that. My wife watches during the day (soap operas) and I watch movies at night. And I game too so even though burn in is almost impossible on these new plasmas i didnt wanna waste my time doing the breakin, etc to prevent burn in. Of course price was relegated in my decision and I got the 8500 46" for practically a steal. Also being able to angle the samsung on the stand was a plus too.

But if you want cheaper price, better pq, better angles, and youll be doing most of your theater type viewing in that room then id get the vt30. just my thoughts.

I think either way they're both good. Aesthetically, Sammy's bezel looks better. Reviews indicate they are the current top dogs. The thing is I have a 60" Pio Elite Kuro in my main HT and these two still aren't up to par with the Kuro. But since there are no more Kuros, I gotta pick what's available now. I never bought into the burn in idea especially with good quality plasma panels. I've been through quite a few already and didn't even bother with breaking in any of them.

You just answered your own answer imo. Youve already got the MIGHTY kuro!! So for the casual viewing go with the sammy.

My pick is the current model Submariner but the new ExplorerII will be the one to check out when it hits the shops in a few months

There are a lot of trusted sellers here. Research is very important before you buy

I have narrowed my choice to: Submariner ND 14060 M Series and above. I like the look without a cyclops but rather love the engraved rehaut and COSC wording. Kinda weird I know...I like the simple ND feature but like the added features of the rehaut and COSC. Whatever flots my boat right?! ha

Welcome .. get the Sub or Deep Sea . Im collecting rolex watches before, and i sold all of them because of other brand. But I always keep 1 of Rolex because its classic look . The deep sea.

I am going to Tourneau to try on watches this Sunday (31 Jul). These are my 3 choices:

1)Seadweller (F Serial)
2)Submariner ND (F Serial) COSC with engraved rehaut
3)Submariner Date (F Serial)

We shall see...and hopefully Tourneau (San Francisco) will have all of them
