What would you do, re: Rolex warranty work? Longish.

I wont go into too many details, but I recently bought a Rolex watch from a known and reputable TZ forum member. This morning, I noticed that the small hand at the 6 o'clock sub-dial fell off. I wonder if that would be covered under warranty? Also, the chronograph sweep seconds hand does not reset to zero (off a little to the left) and the top pusher sticks pretty good when it's closed down. I was never rough with the watch The papers are in his name with the AD's name and date of purchase on them. From what I understand, the warranty stays with the original purchaser, so it is now void that I have the watch. I called a local certified Rolex tech and they don't do warranty work, so they would have send it to Rolex USA in NY to have it looked at. I spoke to Danielle at Rolex USA this afternoon and told her that I received the watch as a gift. She said send the watch back with the warranty paperwork, sales receipt, a detailed letter and said they "should" be able to do the work under warranty. I have a copy of the sales receipt from the seller. I heard that the "gift" thing is not a lock, but it does go through. The seller offered for me to send the watch back to him and he could get the warranty work done, but I don't want to go that route. Too many variables. Any other suggestions?

Argh
Sounds like a run of bad luck. If you can pull off the warranty "sidestep" with the letter, then I recommend that. Not quite sure how much it would cost otherwise, but if you can avoid paying for it then I would. I guess that's just the small but inherent risk that you run buying a used watch with completed papers, though I agree that it sucks to think that you need the warranty on a brand new ROLEX ...but hey, that's what warranties are for, to protect you "just in case."

To wrap it up I really wouldn't recommend going elsewhere for the service, unless maybe Rolex says "no" to your warranty ploy and you can save a few dollars elsewhere....try to beat the system first. Good luck!!

Ruben, thanks for the feedback. I am surpised there are no other responses. I guess it can't hurt to spend $30 for USPS Registered mail, send it to Rolex USA NY and take it from there. The seller even agreed to buy it back for the same price. If Rolex USA denies the warranty work and it is too expensive for my blood, I may go that route :(

Well yes I would have thought Roles would honour the warranty work its a very simple fix.And yes have heard from quite a few other forums about the main second hand not re-setting correct but again a simple fix.And even if Rolex don't do it on warranty it should not cost much.
