cant reach my watch
I dropped my watch to a narrow and very tiny hole in my house. 2 meters deep and 10 cm wide. I can see the watch there but cant really reach it. Today, I purchased a small magnet and attached it to a rope to pull it from there, but i guess the watch does not have a lot of iron in it, I could only make it move a little but cannot pull it. Normally this piece of magnet is very strong, as I had hard time taking it off from the ladder I was using.
Now, I am thinking of getting a 5 times bigger magnet (10cmx5cmx4 cm), but do you think this will damage the watch, I am asking because I know that magnets can damage some stuff. I have always been bad at psychics and chemistry, sorry if this sound silly. Also, do you have any idea on how to pull a watch from a tiny hole? |

I don't know about using a very strong magnet but is there anything you can get from like resembles a claw or pinching tool? maybe use a cloth hanger with electrical tape on the tip and hook area to get at the watch?

It more than likely will, however not being able to get your watch maybe a bigger concern at this point. Not really sure if the bigger magnet will do the job or not??? Demagnitizing your watch should be something any good watchmaker should be able to do after you are able to get your watch.

Use a coat hanger and just hook the watch like keys. Should not be that difficult.

Can't picture the lay of the watch in the hole, but would a golf ball retriever work? Very cheap option.

I'm a cable guy, I got all sorts of tools that can easily get that watch out. Example, we use one tool "fish-sticks" which are 3 feet length sticks that snap together to make a pole. All you need I clothes hanger, make a hook, get a pole, duct tape the hook to the pole, and bring your watch up. Use lots of light as well. Forget the magnet idea. Should be a piece of cake bro!

If the bigger magnet doesn't work...

If you are going to use a magnet you would need something very powerful (like a rare earth magnet.) I wouldn't use it becasue I would be affraid to hurt the internals. Start tearing down the house......
