John!
I think the Rolex and Porsche comparison is just perfect... both so simple yet so full of zest and flavor.. You know how I feel about the 5512... I think it is very lovely... but I still desire for that red sub... I still need to have the red on and then at some point figure out which one at the end, wins out. Maybe both is the way to go?! We will see! Love your post and have a wonderful weekend there my friend! Best, Fred |

Thanks for the warm responses everyone. I am glad to see that others share my new found passion for this vintage reference. Also, great to see your beautiful examples as well.

5512 gets my vote - Prefer the 4 lines to the 2
Now if you had the bezel from the 5513 on the 5512 - perfect |

Err Buddies...here's sharing a couple of Orchi's No Date Submariner 5512 n 5513 watches...
with Non CR(Chapter Ring) Gilt Dials... every bit of it in raw original conditions... well worn n aged...over 45 years. For Orchi at least... these last batches of Non CR(Chapter Ring) Gilt Dial 5512 n 5513... would not come with Gilt Hands from factory...originally. The 5512 circa I.66 in particular is one of the last n only batch... of Rolex Submariner with 4 Liner Gilt Dial... having Cal.1570 COSC movement... + its original certificate having a dealer's stamp... Peoples Credit Jewellers located in Sarnia Ontario... Canada. The 5513 circa IV.66 has what is commonly called "Bart Simpson" Gilt Dial... + Cal.1520 movement Non-COSC... It is perhaps one of the last 5513 Submariner issued with Gilt Dial variant... Luckily Both watches still have the Vintage Crown... Bezel n Plexi Tropic#19(Super Dome)...Original hands... + Original period matching US C&I n 7206 SWISS Riveted Oyster band... Hopes the Buddies here would enjoy the pics... |

(yes Orchi may be quoted for saying the following...) For Orchi at least... it is believed that... 5512 Sub produced by Rolex originally from 1963 to early 1970s... the CB(Case Back) would be marked with "5513"... n 5513 Sub produced by Rolex originally from Mid 70s to the END of 5513 production in L-Series would have the CB marked with "5512"... The above is in contrary to what Orchi had previously thought to be... that the 5513 with "5512"... or 5512 with "5513" caseback marked could be service replacement CBs... n these 5512 n 5513 Submariner with the last of Gilt Dial variants... would NOT have Gilt Hands from factory originally... The previous variants of Gilt Dials with Chapter Ring for 5512 n 5513 would have... Gilt hands from factory originally... This is simply because Orchi did NOT know better then... n Orchi is still learning too... |

Hi Orchi, whew thanks, this can be confusing, just documenting what you said for some 5512 and 5513 education for me that am severely lacking in:), could you please tell me what years below?
5512 (63-70) @ Case back marked with "5513" 5513 (mid 70"s to end "L" Series) (what year?) @ Case back marked with "5512" 5512 & 5513 gilt dials with chapter ring (what years?) @gilt hands from the factory 5512 & 5513 last gilt dial variants (what years?) @no gilt hands from the factory Quote:

Err Buddy Cruvon...here's in reply to your questions...
5512 (63-70) @ Case back marked with "5513" 5513 (mid 70"s to end "L" Series) (1989/90) @ Case back marked with "5512" 5512 & 5513 gilt dials with chapter ring (1963/64) @gilt hands from the factory 5512 & 5513 last gilt dial variants (1965~67) @no gilt hands from the factory So 4 liner gilt dials were from 63-IV.66, right? And only on 5512's, not 5513's, right? Yes Buddy...Orchi believes so... Also "Bart Simpson" Gilt Dials were only in IV.66 or from start of production till IV.66? Orchi believes from 1,5xx,xxx until 1,6xx,xxx NEVERTHELESS...Orchi wishes to add that... prior to 1968 or so...n quite apparently prior to the 1960... there were NO Hard Rules when it involves Vintage Rolex watches... Certain variations or differences could be possible n probable... especially during past transitional periods until then... Simply put there were perhaps NO craved Rules on stone tablets... even in the certain records n archives of Rolex Geneva... The above are just what Orchi believes at this present juncture... n neither should any of them be treated as... the Holy Rolex Bible... |
