Who's going to use iCloud when it's released?
Bit of a tough one this, as I use a lot of apple products, and so it would seem logical to subscribe to their new iCloud service when it's officially released to the public for sign up, but I use gmail for email, calendars and contacts so weighing up the potential switch.
What do you all reckon? Are you going to use iCloud when it's here? |

Not for me- I think I'm too much of a dinosaur. Plus I spend enough time in areas too far from a cell network that id rather have what I need on my device.
Ps shouldn't this be in "general discussion" or whatever it is called, as opposed to Rolex general discussion? |

I've never owned an ianything. Guess the marketing hype doesn't appeal to me. I'm not interested in all the nonsense that comes with the new phones..Though I do have a touchscreen phone, I still find it annoying when you have to flip it around because I don't want the screen horizontal, I want it vertical dammit! Then there's the unresponsive onscreen keyboards and numeric pad. Grrr

Everybody is trying to get us to use some form of Cloud computing. I think the main reason is that it allows them to charge us a monthly fee to store information on their servers. But I am not at all convinced of this yet. A good hard drive (high quality like a Raptor drive) on your home computer and then using a service like Logmein, allows you to access your data, move files, manipulate files, etc., for a fraction of the cost. And, it lets you keep your data under your control.
I recently was considering using Cloud computing for QuickBooks for my business. I had an Intuit employee tell me I was crazy. He stated that if their servers were hacked, which he felt likely to happen, all of my data would be at risk. So I keep considering it, but for now I use the Logmein company's system to access my computer from anywhere and it seems to work pretty well. I do keep all contacts and my calendar in Gmail but all business data stays with me. |

I will be using it but I do not think I will be getting the iPhone 5. I have the iPhone 4 now and am very happy with it!

I'm not saying cloud is infallible, but a good service provider will always have your data available. For most people, manual methods of backing up to your own device(s) still leaves some Single Point of Failure in the process.

I will definitely be joining. I have really been looking forward to better cross-device syncing. I have a home mac, office mac, Ipad and Iphone and syncing between them would be much better with the Cloud.

Hey, I just went from 1- to 4 GB RAM, and installed the 10.6OS, Snow Leopard.
What to say! Snappy and fast! Especially with the upgraded Safari! Yes, iCloud will be free, and free is for me! I'll loose my web hosting, but whatever . . . |
