Limited edition? Really?
Got my PAM 321 a few months ago. Mine is 780/1500. Love this watch. A few weeks ago I was in Beijing and visited the local Panerai store at a luxury mall close to the China World Hotel. They had a PAM 321 and I was surprised to see the engraving on the back 1***/2500!? if I buy a limited edition I expect the watch to be limited to this number and not a few more later. Maybe it wasnt a 321 but it sure looked like it. Any idea?

321 isn't a limited edition....
its a regular production piece. All Panerai are produced in a numbered series for each years production run, ex: NXXXX/ 1500. Also, Limited Edition pieces come in an oversized Panerai box, larger than the standard box.

The 321 you saw was from a different year, which would be designated with a different letter. Regular production pieces have runs of different sizes.

Yeah, it can get confusing at first. As mentioned, all Panerais are limited in quantity produced per year. The special, one year only models are called Special Edition or SE. So, all Panerais are LEs, and some are SEs...! Cheers!

although in the OP's case it wasn't,
i have read there are cases where LE has been produced beyond the original numbers... 232 for example... 40 pieces OOR (outside original run of 1938)

321 is a limited production piece NOT a special edition. It's limited production to certain number, and different number each year. |
