Every time I get an error I have to start over with the sync and backup....anyone know how to bypass that and get right back to the download of the update?

Not sure yet I sold my iphone4 2 days ago. I will be in line at 7am Friday morning to get my 64GB 4S. Still can't believe the fanboys were disappointed that it wasn't called the "iPhone5". All the internal specs are the same as what was slated to be the 5.

Backup what? The phone, the iPad, or do you mean the iTunes directories on the main computer?

When I try to download the update with my Iphone through Itunes. I plug in my Iphone and it automatically starts backing up and syncing every single time...even after it downloaded the update. So everytime I try to download the update I plug in my Iphone and Itunes goes through the process all over again and I have to wait. How can I bypass all that and just go to download update to Iphone through Itunes??

So the recommended backup is whatever itunes does normally + copy all your pics and vids manually from the iphone?

Thanks

i had to reboot both my iphone and computer to get the update to work. if you're having trouble updating, i would suggest doing that.

my ipad update went without a hitch.

Took me about 1.5 hours to do. I just hooked the phone to the computer, and the computer did the rest :)

I thought for SURE I was screwed though, because when it was done downloading the software, and connected to the phone, the phone powered off and said "phone is being reset to it's original state" or something like that. I thought for SURE I lost everything. But apparently, it HAS to wipe everything off the phone first, then it does a complete fresh install to the phone of the new OS. THEN it (from your backup that you just made hopefully) downloads all your music, apps, videos, etc. to the new iOS5.

But ya, when I saw that it was resetting to it's original setting, I almost had a stroke lol

I updated to iOS 5 GM a week ago and the OS is great. I tried to update today and it reported that my iOS is up to date. Looks lome the GM is the same version as the general release.

I went to be and let the software download finish overnight. Woke up at 1:30am to pee, decided to check out software download. Complete! Plugged in iPhone and asked if I wanted up iPhone to iOS 5. Went through those steps and I am all good to go! Back to sleep. I'll play with the new features when I wake up :)

I am up and running and typing this on the iPad 2 and the new keyboard function is great! And the iPhone is good as well. Love the reminders and icloud, everything just syncs perfectly between my Mac, phone and pad.

All good here...updated on two iPhones, iCloud up and running.
Just wish we had more than 5GB on iCloud.

Its pretty cool and I like it. My only complaint is now that I merged my MobileMe account with iCloud I have two apple ID's that cannot be merged.

They even transferred my 50gb of storage from MobileMe over to iCloud!

Great new iOS it does improve in some aspects. I particularly like the iCloud feature and the integration of different things throughout my devices (Mac, iPad, iPhone). Nice!

As with all IOS updates, iTunes automatically backs up your phone. The problem is you end up with multiple backups!

Well, after playing with it for some time, I like it! Being able to scroll between apps and never having to hit the home button is the best!!

I like the new OS. The more I use the phone, the more I'll notice the small, but useful, changes made.

The update went through with no problems, but did take about an hour or so.

One of the features I needed most is Notifications. I am disappointed by it ... I can't find a way for it to display a simple unread emails count on my lock screen (or notification center). The whole point of it for me is to know what's going on without having to unlock the phone, entering my code, etc.

Example: I receive a new email, I see the preview on the lock screen, I unlock the phone and see the email icon with 3 unread emails (on the home screen) ... I lock the phone again, without opening / viewing any email (so still 3 unread emails) ... all lock screen notifications are gone (when I would want to see that I have 3 unread emails without having to unlock the phone).

In the case above, notification center will show me x unread emails, but the lock screen won't show anything .... seems inconsistent and confusing.

I guess the lock screen notifications will only display emails that arrived while the phone was locked and it will reset when unlocking / locking again (not notification center though). As said, confusing ... It is better than nothing, but halfways there.

Am I missing something?

Oh, and since I am at it ... why can't there be a shortcut to the equalizer from the music player screen? Why do I need to exit, get into settings, find the music player, change it, exit and go back to the player ... very very very annoying.
