So...who updated to OS5 today and what do you think?

I'm trying to take a little time out today, to update my iPhone but it won't stop ringing.

Who updated And what do I have to look forword to?

Looks like the server is overloaded ATM.
Had to download and install iTunes 10.5 first... By the time it was done, the iPhone software server "stopped working"

Forgot about it, just downloaded it very quickly but I need to leave in ten minutes and it doesn't seem smart to try to squeeze in an upgrade.

I think they use Akamai, and are probably hitting it hard today between iTunes and iOS upgrades.

Really feel for you sir.

I knew this stuff will happen to some people.

I don't believe in all the crap about how Apple is seamless, "set it and forgot it" and stuff like that. All marketing BS.

Doesn't it only happens when the server is overloaded with keen customers wanting to download the latest operating system/software.

I'm sure it'd happen to an Android company if they were to offer the same update....

Well, the actual download was trouble free (other than the almost 2 hrs waiting); but when iTunes tried to install @ iPad...ERROR. Currently: restoring from backup.....

Totally, I am not taking sides at all and that's why I treat Android, Windows, Apple phones all the same. My point is Apple has been marketed to be seamless and because of this Apple is now perceived to be better than the others on stuff like this and it really isn't. It's the same for them as well.

Just to balance my post, I once updated on my damn Windows laptop and it crashed my laptop. Lost all my contacts. I was not happy!

Just did. Upgrade worked ok though I am having trouble restoring my backup. I am not too bothered if I can't. Performance seems as it was before (after a restart or 2). Will wait a bit before giving an opinion. A couple things I like are related to the camera (direct access from the lock screen and volume button shutter release). Notifications seem ok.

Haven't played with iCloud yet and wifi sync seems limited (only works automatically when the phone is plugged?? >> change a wire for another??? doesn't make too much sense to me).

We'll see ... It is not blowing me away for now ... maybe expectations were too high ..

EDIT, I am giving up on the backup ... make sure you copy everything you need (pictures, etc.) before starting!!!

Yes, it seems that way, but it also could be because my phone storage is almost full now.

Wow, good heads up guys. So those that are saying they got an error or something along those lines have lost their entire phone's stuff?? It wipes/attempts to restore when updating?

Is the recommendation to do a good backup before starting the iOS5 update??

Absolutely. It did restore all my apps but I lost all the photos on the camera roll, so make sure you download those before getting started.

I wiped all music and other photos and loaded manually after I was done. Performance wise, it does not seem to lag any more than with the previous version (I have a 4) ... It is working fine now and it seems snappy.

Thanks Serg - I didn't realize it was so intense of an update.

I think the fix to the error, is to make sure nothing is running to stop the progress. I put the phone in airplane mode and shut off bluetooth etc...
