Panerai attributes
I see many panerai timepieces in the classifieds. Can anyone do a brief compare and contrast of rolex v panerai so I have a better understanding of the panerai brand and it's attributes ? Thanks in advance

hi,
your question is kind of open-ended.... my suggestion is to check out panerai's Web site (the catalogue, the history, etc.) and explore this sub-forum. lots of great posts and impressions of the brand. |

My summary.
Panerai....you either get it....or you don't. PS - Don't hurt yourself thinking about it.

Visit an AD that has both brands and it's pretty apparent as to the difference in their look.

Rolex:
- Classic designs they basically invented - all in-house movements - Shoulders as crown guards with double- or trip-lock screwdown (or no crown guard) - some of the smoothest rotor movements on automatic watches Panerai: - very few in-house movements, most being modified Valjoux/ETA - many models have easily-switchable straps, a real convenience that leads to a fun side collection of straps - very unique style crown guards with lock latch instead of screwdown crown (or no crown guard) - tend to be bigger (though you can find down-sized models) - rotors tend to dance and buzz a bit on your wrist |

Rolex inspires envy, Panerai inspires lust. Which vice are you more prone to? :-)
