Be careful when selling...

This should probably go in the watchout section, but more people will probably read it here. I posted two watches for sale last week on TRF. In hours, I had emails about both. My SMP went to a great buyer and the transaction couldnt have been better. My other watch was inquired about heavily. The person claimed he was buying the watch as a gift for his son. He said he was paying but to drop ship directly to his son. I would have no problem doing so if the money to paypal transaction was legitimate.

Anyway, all weekend long we emailed back and forth. He was in the UK and I inthe US. I decided to walk away and emailed him so as no money had exchanged hands. Then yesterday, I get an email saying he had deposited money to me on Paypal the day before. I spoke with Paypal via telephone and nothing was received. I checkedby my spam email folder and there it was. A fake email trying to get me to divulge info for identity theft. Fortunately, I was smart enough to know I was being scammed. I also know to check the balance in my Paypal account before releasing the goods. Paypal was contacted and the email was forwarded to them. They confirmed it was fake.

I am sure it was an alias account, but if anyone is doing a transactionn with Raymond (Ray) Eastwoods, run, don't walk... His Email is [email protected]. I am sure this person is not a member here anyway.

Even though nothing happened, I have had that same vulnerable feeling that I had when when my car was broken into years ago. A feeling like this really happened to me? It will make me change the way I sell items online from here out.

Enticing these crooks -- yeah, play games with them. Tell them "yeah, I got your payment" and act like all is good and ask them for a reference check, just to show you are taking them seriously and tell them you ar mailing the watch out.

And after a few days when they call you back about the watch, you unleash profanities up their A$$ ---

I had a similar situation, but the guy insisted that I ship to his work address rather than the confirmed paypal addy. The payment DID come in, but later was removed, as it originated from a stolen credit card. Be vigilant, people!

A few days ago, I was trying to get a watch for my wife. Contacted a trusted seller here, friendly emails all the way, but at some point he bail out as he think the deal was too complicated.

Since I'm overseas, I had to wire the money, because wanted the watch delivered in Miami, to a friend of mine who travel to my country on almost weekly basis.

After reading this thread I can see that the seller was not only polite, but very professional and skip a deal that maybe started to look fishy. I can see that now and I not only respect that, but appreciate it. I hope he want to do a business with me in the future, if I need something else.

Anyway, I think that my problem was my first wire operation, so I asked him info a few times in order to do that, I told him about the shipping address, etc, then so too complicated and, of course, started to look fishy.

At the end I made a post in the WTB section with all the info at once and that did the trick. I wired the money, the new seller got it 2 days later, the watch was shipped to my friend in Miami and I got the watch 2 days later. Now is hidden, ready to give it to my wife in our anniversary this weekend.
