To me, a muscle car is a mid or full size coupe or sedan that has a big American V8 in the front, rear wheel drive, room for four passengers and it was sold at an affordable price.
If you go by that definition, I must agree with those that said that a lot of the cars in this thread are not muscle cars.

Dilemma "This. Only I would add pre-emission CRAP! "
I can't totally disagree, the 60's muscle cars were/are pure sex and fun and they are cool but the world has passed them by. My 335 hp 2001 Camaro SS would blow the doors off of the 360 hp 1966 Chevelle SS that I had. |

The little town of Chickasha southwest of where I live is home to the Muscle Car Ranch... it was built as a sort of tribute to the "true" muscle cars. I interviewed owner Curtis Hart years ago when I wrote an entertainment feature story for the Sunday Oklahoman. He has not only an extensive collection of muscle cars, but vintage motorcyles as well. Very cool place.
Check out the "site navigation" box on the left to get some good info about the history of muscle cars. I'm not terribly familiar with his website, but there should be some good photos, too. www.musclecarranch.com/com |

For me, the term also implies, it goes in a straight line really fast, but please don't take a corner at any great speed.

The car I drive on nice weekends though is a Corvette. You dont want to line up against this V8. 610bhp(S/C'd) and weighs less than the 1 while getting similar mileage. About a 5.4:1 power to weight. |

In order of preference, these are my favorite muscle cars, clearly I have no allegiance to any of the big three, I would take the cream of any Ford, GM, or Mopar.
Any factory Hemi-powered Dodge, preference would be a GTX or Roadrunner 65-68 or 70 Cuda'. 1965 442 1970 442 W/30 455 tri-power 1966 Cobra 427 S/C 1965 GTO 1970 Buick GS 455 1970 W/32 Hurst Olds Any LS-6 454 Chevy made in 1970, Corvette, Chevelle
