I went to Tourneau today.....

I am in Troy, Michigan at the Somerset Collection where they have a Tourneau store. I have been there a number of times and the girl I meet looks at my watch and says "nice Yachtmaster." We chat and I mention I am looking for a Sub-C. See says they no longer sell new Rolex watches and only have pre-owned models.

As we are talking I look across from her store and notice a brand new Omega store has opened up directly in front of hers. It is right next to Tiffany and Neiman Marcus.

We chat and she explains the next trend for Rolex is the boutique watch shop. She said they started it in Chicago and it worked well. An authorized Rolex store that would not discount. Bose spearkers has done this type of price control for years and it has worked.

Is this the next step for Rolex??????????? I hope not.

Sad but true I've lost many of my longtime AD's here in NJ.

Agreed however I cannot see this happening everywhere. I think we will still see local smaller AD's especially in places like the Mid West and the like where there is not the market for a large AD

I'm kind of in this area too and was bummed that Jared lost Rolex. I have an account with them and their 12/18 months no interest is pretty nice.

My local AD has also just lost its AD status - just reflects the direction that Rolex is now heading in.

If they want to put up the money for inventory, open a separate storefront etc...
local AD's may open a Rolex Boutique.

For those in SE michigan go to the downtown Rochester Lucido's jewelry store. They are not a rolex boutique but an AD (and carry breitling, tag as well as fine jewelry). Personally I've had good sucess with their selection and 8-10% discount from retail. I'm told they are one of the biggest volume rolex sellers in SE michigan.

There is no doubt it's happening, look at what Omega is doing, there's not a penny discount in the Omega store. At least not at the one here in Scottsdale.
